Guest guest
I am 42 yr old female with CMT. I was diagnosed in my early teens and had tendon transfer at 19. Since graduation form college with a degree in Medical technology, I have worked as a Medical Technologist (blood analysis, lab work) on my feet for 16 years. I have always been physically active, bike riding, mostly and have always kept the fact that I have CMT to myself and very, very close friends. Over the years, I have always struggled with being just like everybody else and hating all the " looks " and questions from perfect strangers, to even the rudest of 1st dates where a guy called me " gimpy " and dragged his foot in imitation of my limp! I now (and have for 4 1/2 years) work for a Medical Software company as a software training specialist which is a desk job that I enjoy very much. I am not as physically active as I was in my 20s and 30s, but try to walk when I can. I have one year old twins which keep me very busy. My question is that I'd like to explore the possibility of surgery. I don't know where to start? My primary care knows of my CMT, but I have never gone any further with a specialist. Does anyone have any advice? Do I see a neurologist? Orthopedist? I would like to get " the most bang for my buck " so to speak in terms of surgery because I can't afford to be out of work that long and with twins I am needed by them and my husband. I also do not want to wait too much longer as I know the older you get the recovery is much longer. Thanks in advance for reading and any input is greatly appreciated!
