Hi Everyone,

I was wondering if anyone that has CMT has also been diagnosed with Skin Lupus.

I have been having a lot of skin issues. I am on Coumidin and have lots of

bruising, but this skin issue on my arms and face are in addition to.

I was reading that people that are Dx. with Skin Lupus are usually not going to

end up getting regular Lupus, that causes issues with the inside organs.

I had never heard of this until yesterday.

Just wondering if anyone has both of these.

Thanks,

Connie

Hi Connie,

My sister was diagnosed with the malar rash of lupus on her face. She

has had a lot of other complaints such as vague abdominal pain,

profound fatigue, bone pain and skin sensitivities that had been

attributed to lupus before we found out about CMT. Interestingly, she

has been doing some of her own research and found that all those

symptoms can be related to gluten sensitivity, so she went on a

gluten free diet. It has been about 7 weeks and she feels wonderful,

no more mysterious pains, lots of energy, rash cleared up and she has

lost 10 pounds. I'm thinking about giving it a try but am very

reluctant to give up all my favorite gluten-containing foods.

(Incidentally, she did get the antibody test which was very positive,

even on a gluten free diet, so this isn't placebo effect). Lupus is a

vague diagnosis and a lot of things can mimic it. It is true that

there is a difference between " discoid lupus " , which is confined to

the skin and " systemic lupus erethymatosis " (SLE).
