Guest guest
I'm just back from the hotel where I got my mother a room. She's there where it is safer, the car is safe so we will have transportation and we will have a place to stay if we lose power or something happens to the house. I am at the house to keep an eye on things, but hopefully this won't be too bad. People are kind of nuts around here running errands in the rain, which is really the front edge of Hannah, which should tell you how big the storm actually is. We are forecast to have strong winds but not a whole lot of rain. I'd rather it be the other way around since there is one tree in my neighbor's yard that worries me. Still, the house is only one slice of the compass that it could fall on, but it would also hit other trees on the way which would be a real mess. Hopefully it will stay standing. Two interesting things happened. When I made the reservation, I specifically requested a room with a fridge and a microwave. The room I was given didn't have either. The fellow at the front desk hadn't noticed that request when I got the room and they were almost full. Fortunately for him, they did have a room left that had what I wanted. If not, I would have gone next door and seen if they had one before canceling the room I already had. Once we had gotten settles in the new room, I'd have called the customer service line for that hotel and made a complaint. I've done that before and gotten good results. Most of this crowd I'm sure is NASCAR fans coming in for the race Saturday night if you can believe that. I seriously doubt it will be run since the hurricane will hardly be out of the way. Something funny happened too. When I walking to the front desk to get the key to the new room (I wouldn't give up the key to the old room until I checked out the new one and made sure it was what I wanted) there were two couples with mild northern accents, Pennsylvania maybe. They were talking about finding a grocery store when one of the men jokingly asked me, "Do you know where there's a grocery store around here, he ha ha!" I looked at him and said, "Yes, I do" and told him where to find the best one, which was just a couple of miles up the road, and other nearby stores to find alcohol if they wanted it because that grocery chain doesn't carry booze. That really surprised them and they asked if I stayed there often, to which I said from time to time, but I also live a few miles the other side of the grocery. They asked why I was at the hotel and I said Hannah. They were surprised about that and I told them the hurricane was on the way and the rain was the outer edge, the worst would be around tomorrow morning and afternoon. After that I walked on and left them talking amongst themselves. I thought it was funny that here this fellow was asking a question in jest and actually got an answer.
