Guest guest
Gretchen, We just bought a house that has a pool in backyard so I can begin to exercise regularly. What would you suggest I start doing? I am a relatively good swimmer, but want to concentrate on building the quads, as they are non existent on land! I plan to start with just walking around the pool, but anything else to make it a good routine where I feel like I am doing something productive? Fortunately, being in South Florida the pool is naturally 90 degrees, a little warm for my northern blood! Jackie
Guest guest
Hi Jackie, How wonderful to have your own pool Yes, I would start with walking 'laps' in the shallow end for awhile, then perhaps add 'wall slides' - stand up in 4 ft. of water, your back up against the side of the pool, arms stretched out in front of you, then do squats - keeping your back flat against the wall and belly button tucked in as you squat. As you squat down, pull your arms down into the water. Inhale before squatting, exhale when squatting. Maybe I should just come and show you, lol, it is sort of difficult to explain in writing. I put a list of exercises in the Aquatics file folder, if you go through that and ask me about any, I can try to explain them. There are also some pool toys, floats, noodles, weights, balls etc. that can be used to exercise with. Wondering if you would consider a few sessions with a Personal Swim Trainer to get you going? Guest guest
What about the chlorine in the pool. It is a halogen, is it not. My doc says that, like bromine, ,it seizes the receptor sites on the cells that should be taken by thyroid hormones. My doc advised me against pools unless they have the ozone-salt system. Guest guest
That is interesting to me - I have not swam in years because I always became more sick after swimming. Now for the last year when my girls go swimming they get sick everytime - cant figure it out - we even ditched out YMCA membership because it just caused us to be sick all the time................... my girls will get fevers and will be totaly out of it for about three to four days. I would like to know why this happens...... anyone know??? Thanks, Diane > > What about the chlorine in the pool. It is a halogen, is it not. Guest guest
When I learned about the harmful effects of Chlorine, we switched our pool to a hydrogen peroxide system called Baquacil. It is a little more expensive, but worth it. I feel safer and my skin feels better after swimming in or 'hot tubbing' in our pool now, and I can get some much needed exercise. > > That is interesting to me - I have not swam in years because I always became more sick after swimming. Guest guest
We just had a Bioset clearing for chlorine last month and already my son is doing better. His ears would get beet red just sitting on the bench waiting for his lesson and they's stay red for hours afterward. He was having trouble even using his left arm in strokes and just last week he was able to use it three times in a row before getting tired. > > > > That is interesting to me - I have not swam in years because I always became more sick after swimming. Guest guest
that's interesting about the substitute for chlorine; do you (or does anyone) know about bromine in hottubs; i did find a colloidal silver substitute which I used first but it did become cloudy after a week or so; rather that add all the chemicals that came with the spa (including chlorine) i went out and bought what i thought was the lesser of the evils (some bromine tablets) and have had to add a few although the silver i initially put in says its good for 3-4 months so I hopefully haven't compromised that too much. Any ideas? I know the hot-tubs along, followed by 25 min in my infrared sauna seems to be helping me a great deal; just worried about the bromine.thanks > > We just had a Bioset clearing for chlorine last month and already my son is doing better.
