If activated it will go thru a operator at a local hospital so they can call police, ambulance, etc. I have needed it because I fall periodically. Guest guest Posted July 27, 2008 Report Share Posted July 27, 2008 Hi .. I got Lifeline because of a bad fall & I live alone. I felt I needed something that would help me if that happened again. I definately have needed it since I got it. I have a pendant that you push the button when you need help. The main unit hooks up thru the phone which acts like a speaker phone. Hope this helps. I guess in an emergency they would call 911, but I don't think you can talk directly to 911 or a hospital. They do give great piece of mind.
