I have taken Tramadol for a little over one year. I

loved the drug because it didn't make me feel dizzy

like Neurontin and Lyrica. However, Tramadol has a

bunch of side effects. It has interfered with my meds

for my Hypothyroidism working properly and I too have

libido that is non-existent...not fun for my poor

husband. Tramadol can also have a muscle wasting

effect, which we CMTers don't need extra help with.

I am working on weaning myself off and wondered if any

of you had a pain med that worked well with limited

side effects.

Thanks,

Amy

Hi Amy,

I've been taking Tramadol for post-op pain (about 6 weeks now) and have

not experienced any side effects. As the pain lessens (with the

application of ice and Physical Therapy), I need less each day.

You may want to look at Naprosyn/Naproxen.

Hi, Amy.

I have tried Tramadol. In fact, this is my second

go 'round with it. I love the way it works with increased energy

level and NO pain, without any slowed reaction time or sleepiness. I

am taking the NON extended release form, and I have trouble with

rebound pain (or possibly just muscle cramps) when it starts to wear

off. This reaction seems to get worse the longer I take it, so a few

years ago I spent 4 days on the couch taking Flexeril to curb the

pain until the " withdrawal " was over. Well, I have been so active

this summer, that I woke up one morning in alot of pain and had a

prescription for tramadol. I started taking it again about 2 months

ago, but the cramps continue. It works really well, while it is

working, and if my insurance would pay, I would take the XR type. I

did try a few of the extended release form and there was no

cramping.

I wasnt aware of the tramadol causing some muscle loss. Could you

tell me a little more about that? Maybe that's why my thighs ache---

YIPE!

Thanks,

Mandy

Hi Amy:

I use a drug called Tramacet - 37,5 mg of Tramadal HCL & 325 mg. paracetamol. I

am not sure it is the same drug you are talking about, but it helps me with my

neuropathic pain.

I have not been using this drug for long. I use it as required. For years the

3600 mg. of Neurontin has helped , but I always needed some other painkiller.

Tylenol 3 and Oxycontone made me nauseous. Tramacet works great for the pain and

I have not noticed any side effects.

So far so good..............

I have been taking Tramadol for about a year and half. I take 2-25mg tablets at

bedtime. And sometimes during the day if pain is unbearable. They work great for

me.
