Guest guest
First of all- Thanks for all of the good Vitamin C info!!!! Also, a little helpful hint from me... I have pretty bad neuropathic pain for which I take a drug called Tramadol. I detest taking drugs, but my pain keeps getting more and more intense and I was having to take more drugs...yuck. Anyway...my new doctor told me to try CalMax. It is a powdered form of Calcium and Magnesium, but also contains 500mg of Ascorbic acid. You just add a teaspoon to a glass, add a little hot water, and then either juice of your choice or hot tea, etc. You can take it 3X/day. The magnesium is suppose to be a pain reliever. Apparently, many people are low in magnesium. I have started taking it, and have noticed that I am not having to take 2 of my pain killers each day....GREAT NEWS! You can get this at CVS, but you really have to look hard for it. It is in the Dietary Supplement section. Might be of help to some of you too! As for genetic testing.... Dawn- You can request genetic testing through your doctor when you visit him/her in July. They will refer you to a company called Athena, who has the patent on the CMT diagnostic tests. These tests are expensive and not everyone does them. Depending upon what state you live it, Athena offers a " Patient Advocacy Program " where they will file on your insurance, but you will only pay for 20% of the total cost. This could still be quite a bit of money as there are several different tests for the different types of CMT. As far as I know, MDA does not pay or help pay for genetic testing. They will help you with the cost of braces if you have a prescription for them from your doctor. Hope this makes sense. It is sometimes overwhelming at first, but it will all come together for you! Take care and I hope that your doctor's appt. goes really well! Amy Hodge
