Guest guest
This is really good news. When I had surgery I was also ahead of recovery time. Nice to be ahead of schedule for something. Guest guest
Hi everyone, Today I had a 7 week check with my surgeon who fixed my torn rotator cuff. He was so surprized at how well I have healed - said I was way ahead of the " normal " time of recovery. Had me stand up and raise my arms over my head, which was no problem. I have a few more days of Physical Therapy which is now more about working on strength, one last doc visit in October, and then it's all over My fast recovery after this surgery is interesting, because the same thing happened after back surgery in 02. That surgeon 'estimated' it would take me 6 mos to just get back to walking. I was doing walking fine at about 3 months. I feel that the stellar PT I've had after these surgeries has made the recoveries happen so quickly. It is D*** hard work, but worth it! The shoulder surgeon said I must be a 'good healer', whatever that means. He and the back surgeon are in the same practice, these guys are stellar MDs. I also feel it is just good 'medical karma' if there is such a thing. I also like the docs too, which helps in healing. Now I can get back into more gardening and exploring my latest interest in Fiber Arts, weaving and spinning Alpaca fleece. Gretchen
Guest guest
That's great news, Gretchen! When I had my hip replaced in 2001, the recovery went better than expected also. Though, with that type of surgery, most of the patients are much older, so my relatively young age gave me an unfair advantage. But, my doctors also told me that motivation plays a big part. The more determined a patient is to recover, the faster the recovery generally progresses. My sports med doc explained that's one of the reasons why professional athletes recover so quickly. Of course, being in good shape definitely helps them, but it's not the only factor. Getting better is hard work and compliance with the treatment plan isn't easy, so mental strength plays a big part. This is where you clearly have an advantage! Your mental strength and determination sets you apart. Thanks for sharing your great news. It's encouraging to others, knowing the possibility exists for a speedy surgical recovery. Keep up the good work!
