Guest guest
I would recommend Frans Bosch's: Running: Biomechanics and Exercise Physiology Applied in Practice. He also has a DVD: Running. Frans spoke here in Chicago back in July at the USATF summit. You can order the book and DVD through Vern Gambetta's website. Guest guest
Willie, First, good luck with your training and goals. I believe that going Westside will be great for explosive power and acceleration, which is what bobsledding is all about. Start by reading anything from Charlie Francis. He is one of the most knowledgable coaches on the planet. His training protocols are fairly easy to follow and will lend themselves very well to the acceleration component of bobsledding. Speed Trap, if you can find it, and Charlie Francis Training System will be great first reads. Getting onto charliefrancis.com's forums will also get you initiated. Also, through speedendurance.com you can find Gerard Mach's Canadian Sprint Coaching guide in e-book format. It's from 1980 or so, but is very relevant, and gives background to many of Charlie's training philosophies. My professional hockey players have benefitted greatly from this type of training. Their acceleration has improved dramatically in our summer work. We also train with Westside lifting methods, which has shown great benefit.
