Hi Geoff, I am in the IT field Specific working in networking with Cisco gear.

I use to do installs, which required lifting and setup up Computer gear. The

21 " monitors were brutal. Glad I got out of that. Anyways the job is all on

the computer now and I don't do installs anymore. The only thing I find now if

after a whole week of typing and if I have been working long days, I find my

fingers won't do what I tell them to by the end of the week.

Good luck in finding something new.

Matt in Ontario, Canada.

Thanks Matt.

Funny I have been doing cable installation for the past 15 years and thats the

type of work I am good at.I am not good with typing and have terrible

handwriting.Do you or anyone else have this problem?

I can type good, but my handwriting is horrible and looks very juvenile,

although I have always had that problem, even before CMT. Now it actually hurts

to write, so I type everything.

I also work on the computer all day, not so much typing but a lot of

researching. It is hard on the body, mainly because I do not get up enough

during the day because i am concentraing so hard. I do find that when I am doing

repetitive work on computer, my fingers, shoulders and neck get very sore. I

also find by having my eyes on computer screen for so long, makes me very tired

and achy in my head and i MUST lay down at 4:00 for an hour.

Since I do work from home, it really has been an ideal situation for someone

with CMT, minus the people contact!

Hi Geoff,

I worked an office job, but in my 30's changed to IT. After being a

programmer I started doing network and workstation setup. Some days

could be pretty physical, but by the age 50 I was an IT manager. Even

with that I retired at age 56.

I am a Medical Technologist by trade. The job is working in a hospital lab

performing analysis on blood and body fluids. I worked in that field for 16

years. A new job fell into my lap (almost) in the medical field using my

background, but in an office setting. I am a software trainer for a Data

Management Software company. I don't do a ton of typing, but spend many hours

on the phone (with a headset) teaching lab personnel (my former peers) to use

our software. While I loved my lab job, I am grateful for this position because

as I get older, (I am almost 43) my hands are getting weaker and my balance not

as good. Spending hours on my feet walking around the lab and manipulating

blood samples and instrumentation would be more difficult now.

Sorry for the novel :)

Maybe body surfing, but i would be lucky to just be able to walk into the ocean

by myself, yet alone stand on a board!

No , Deb at the mouse house was going Pro as a surfer.

I wish we all could be surfers!!! I wouldn't even be on this list if my CMT was

that mild. LOL

Probably a wise job change. In my 30's I did some classroom training.

On my feet all day & no big deal. At age 40-45 I was still able to

haul a few computers around and set them up. By age 55 fugetaboutit!

Hi Geri, I am so happy you want to see her work. She likes to paint people, she

wants to get really good at them. She has done some really nice landscapes from

her trips to Europe.I will send pictures. If anyone else wants to see them

please let me know.
