Black with CMT

Hello group,

I don't think that I mentioned that I was a Black female trying to live

with CMT. My mother was the only one out of 13 brothers and sisters to

get this disease which was passed down to my sister and brother whose

symptoms are not as severe as mine. My sister went to the MDA summer

camp and she was the only Black person there with CMT, she said that

people were looking at her like there wasn't anything wrong with her.

My Orthotis says that this disease is not very common in Blacks and it

was his first time having and seeing a black patient with this

disease. He has worked for the CMT clinic in Detroit and has been

working with the MDA clinic there as well for more that twenty years so

he was excited to see how the disease presented itself in a Black

person. It was kind of creapy to me to see him so excited about my

high arch, hammer toes, drop foot, and the list goes on.

I was wondering if there were any Black people in this group or if

anyone in this group knows of any other race with this disease? What

are the racial statistics for CMT?
