Guest guest
A month ago we had a new roof put on the house. This involved removing all the old shingles, tar paper and flashing, putting down new tar-paper, shingles and flashing, and some areas had a special coating of impregnable rubber. We've had a considerable many storms up here in the past few days and we had leakage. My mother found water on the floor of one of the upstairs closets this morning. I took a look and determined that it was probably leaking by the chimney and running down to the lowest point into the ceiling and told her so. I mentioned to my mother that I didn't think the contractors had sealed the area around the chimney enough when I had inspected the roof some time ago, but I didn't mention it to them because I hoped it would hold. Dad came home and checked out the leak and said that he thought the water was coming from a different area of the house entirely. I had, in fact drew up the designs for that part of the house (it was a small addition) and did not think there could possibly be a leak there. In my head, I could see all the rafters of the house and re- asserted to him that I thought it was leaking around the chimney. I pointed out that shape of the roof and how unlikely it was that his idea was correct as well. He called the contractor back who looked at it and said it was the chimney. My father told my mother and then my mother told me. I said, " Yep, that was what I said all along. " She said " Did you? I don't remember you saying that. " This happens to me all the time. I am right about something, but no one remembers me saying it. But when someone ELSE is right, they usually remember THEM saying it. Does that every happen to you?
