Guest guest
Hi Beata, Yes, I can ride a bike, for me it is very therapeutic. I have been riding much more recently. The Mephisto's that I wear, are the womens oxfords. I also have a pair of their sneakers. Nordstroms carries them, I do not know if that store is in Sweden, but you can purchase them on their internet site. I read what you said about having the right shoes for the braces, and that is so true. So Mitch went out and bought you shoes too! When Mitch fit me, he said the shoes that I had would not work for my balance problems, he said he could tell by the angle of the shoe's toe and heel. He was right about that, because with the proper shoes I walk perfectly, but with some of my older shoes, I have major difficulties. He also told me that even though the brace is made with corrections for balance, the shoe is the first thing that hits the floor, and that can change everything. After learning more about this, it sounds like some of us may be more sensitive to improper shoes. New Balance also works well for me. I think Mephisto is a European brand, you should see if they have any stores where you live. Shelia
Guest guest
Hi Sheila, Thanks for telling me about the shoes... I will go shoe hunting today! I feel so inspired about everybody's good experiences with the Helios braces that I want to get them to work utdoors too! For that I need shoes that work. My sneekers are ok, but I am sure the proper shoe will fix it. Mitch was very troubled about the shoes I had brought to his clinic. I had ballerina-shoes (without braces they are my favourites in summer) and boots. Mitch could not understand how I prefer walking in ballerinas instead of sneekers, but I never wore braces before, so I I didn't need special shoes for that reason. Nobody ever told me about AFOs in Sweden before, and when I found out about them, I wanted the best, and that's Helios. But Mitch could not fit the braces into my ballerinas (of course!) nor into my boots. I bought Adidas sneekers and they worked a little. Then I bought Etonic sneekers in Sweden, and they are a lot better. But hopefully New Balance or Mephistos will be even better! Great to hear you can ride a bike too. I think many people with CMT struggle with walking, instead of biking. Also, the bike is a great support even when you are leading it... Thanks, Beata
