Guest guest
I had this happen to me. I called and was told the exact same thing. A few days later I got a phone call from SS and was then told the case I was working on was approved, later I got an approval letter in the mail. I assume if it was a denied I would have only been notified by mail.
Guest guest
ODAR employees do not 'inform' claimants of benefits. You will no doubt receive a letter from SSA detailing the decision. Or you could try calling SSA and inquiring about the latest information in your file. Gretchen
Guest guest
I called again and they said my case was in the writing department? What are they doing? What does this department do? > > I had this happen to me. I called and was told the exact same thing. Guest guest
A letter is being written to you explaining the ALJ decision and what the outcome is.
Guest guest
Does anyone know how long it takes for your decision from the ALJ to be out of the writing department and posted?
Guest guest
That is a question that I have been trying to find out also. My hearing was three weeks ago and I was approved at the time of the hearing and have not heard anything as of yet. Nothing through the mail. I have done a lot of research on line and I have gotten a lot of conflicting information. Some get their back pay before they receive any correspondence in the mail. Then I have heard that some people get their monthly payments before the back pay, Then I have heard of people not getting their back pay for months and months. It seems that it is different for everyone. Anyway, will be curious to read the responses. Teri, PA

Guest guest
Would you please tell me what ALJ stands for what is ODAR? Joan
Guest guest
Ok, I may be a little confused here by what I have been told and have read. So what is the procedure in order from the time after the hearing (approved at hearing, onset date by judge was December 06) hearing date 9/23/08. My lawyer informed me after the hearing that in " about " a week and a half I would receive some paperwork in the mail, well, it has been over three and he says that this is normal. Again, I have tried to research on my own to no avail. Thanks! -- Re: ALJ Decision YES. > Does this mean that it take 3 to 5 months before you receive anything in the mail or payments? <
Guest guest
Joan, ALJ is Administrative Law Judge. ODAR is Office of Disability Adjudication and Review. Gretchen
Guest guest
Teri, When the ALJ makes a ruling on a case, it goes through a bunch of paperwork and processing at the Hearings Office (ODAR) first. Then back to Social Security Administration's Regional Office(in your area) for more paperwork, then to your local office for more paperwork. This is a very slow process, it is just as backed up as initial claims are. Gretchen
