Guest guest
, The braces made in Las Vegas are called Helios, and you can search our archived messages for all the discussions on them and AFOs, DAFOs and KAFOs. There is also information in our Files and Links sections. But before you go to far, I would suggest you contact a Certified Othotist/Pedorthorist, have an evaluation, and let the Orthotist be your guide as to your individual needs. Guest guest
Hi , I have got the Helios braces, made by Ortho Rehab in Las Vegas. They are great for my balance and I can stand with them easily without holding onto something. I use them indoors, mostly at my work since there are long straight corridors, and the braces are perfect for that.Unfortunately, using the braces outdoors is harder for me. They are rigid and it makes it hard to walk on uneven ground, especially slopes. I have removed the braces before going out so far, but I have lately had contact with other CMTers on this list who think uneven ground is no problem with the braces for them, so yesterday a just kept the braces on when I left my work. There is a slope in front of the office building but I managed that, so I guess I have become " better " now, than last time I tried. Yes, you save a lot of energy by using the braces. Also my muscles feel stronger now, so walking withut braces is easier too. Best is that you get a nice gait. People who don't know about the braces say things like: " I think you walk a lot straighter now! " Worst thing is the price. They are very expensive, but you will not find a similar product elsewhere. It is also very hard to find the perfect shoe... I use sneakers but I am in search of something better. Good luck, Beata
Guest guest
Hallo, I have diagnosed with CMT this month, I am searching for the braces that can support my leg. I have the weakness more on my right leg. Since I noticed this forum most people live in The US, is there any information where can I get this braces in Asia specifically in the Philippines? Thanks before for any response. Regards Mirza
Guest guest
, The helios braces cost a great deal and require you to be fitted in Las Vegas. If time and money are a concern, then you can be fitted with different braces locally. I have braces that were made for me by Hangar orthotics. They took some getting used to, but the end result is they work fine and I am able to walk and balance easily now. Helios may be in my future as I think they may be better overall but there are options. BTW, I can refer you to a doctor who specializes and prescribes the braces you may need if you are local to the central fl area. Guest guest
Hi Mark, I am right outside of Tampa and also use the Trinity Hanger Orthotics. What kind of AFOs do you have? Thanks for the info. Elaine
Guest guest
Mark, I also have AFOs at the moment made by Hangar orthotics, even though I'm happy with them I started to think more and more of Helios now that I know some people who use them are happy with them if indeed Helios are better than AFOs. I'm trying to find more information about the Helios and if the price are worth it. I'm not sure if I make any sense but I'm thinking why someone chooses Helios instead of AFOs. I'm just trying to understand, Thanks Spy
