If you're talking about that article on treating acute

HCV, I was rolling my eyes too at the number claiming

to have gotten it sexually. That number was way too

high. I figure someone's not being too honest about

some OTHER high-risk behavior. It might be passed very

occasionally, in unusual circumstances, sexually, but

not that often!

Can't wait to hear about the article. We can't seem to

get a newspaper interested in HCV here. At least not

yet. When the numbers come rolling in from the recent

blood donations maybe someone will take notice!

Glad to hear you are hanging in there. When is your 6

mo. PCR due?

What type of new version?!?!? One that doesn't burn I hope!

[ ] Just saying hi

Hello everyone,

Haven't kept in touch, but have been reading the posts. Thought I'd

say hi and let you know I've been thinking of you. The Dercum Kid is

alive and kicing, albeit gently and slowly. My last surgery, at the

hands of a gentle and skillful dermatologist went well and has healed

quickly with no horrible aftereffects. I'm scheduled to attend a

conference of Ohio dermatologists March 3 and meet some doctors at

Cincinnati Hospital to see who is willing to learn more about this

bizarre disease.

Some European doctors have had encouraging results with growth

hormone injections in a few people, and one woman who had a total

body lipectomy has been tumor-free for nearly 5 months now, though

she still has the other side-effects of Dercum's. So there is hope

on the horizon! I've had to discontinue using the Duragesic patch--

my darn body which seems to be allergic to so many things reacted

badly to the adhesive and to the gel itself, not to mention the fact

that I wasn't getting very much pain relief any more. Ah well, back

to the drawing board. Dr. Khan says he'll think of something, he is

a very sweet compassionate man. I tell him he is the Arab version of

the Pillsbury Doughboy and he tells me I've got him hooked on

Buckeyes (the candy) now.

Ron got his Abbott newsletter the other day, and apparently they have

a new version of Humira in the works with expanded applications for

use in PsA.

A belated happy Valentine's Day to all,

Peace,

Judi

Thanks for checking in, Judi. That's a pretty good report.

It's great that you are going to that conference to give another group

of docs and education.

How do they suppose that growth hormone helps Dercum's disease?

I'll tell you where to go!

Alley,

So glad to hear from you! Congratulations on your granddaughter--what a

Glad all is well with you and your job. I've started my own business

Hi Alley:

We're all glad to hear from you.

CONGRATS on the granddaughter.........what fun you will have!!!!! And what a

lovely name!

Glad to hear there's another hockey fan out there. My husband, and I

celebrated his 57th birthday last Saturday at an Admirals hockey game. They are

an AHL team, now. The only thing I miss about the EHL is playing Richmond. I

will never forget the time a Richmond fan poured a beer on Brophy's head

and Armoni suit. He was our coach then. He jumped out of the team box and

punched the fan out. Considering how much the suit cost, I can't say that I

blame him, but the refs put him off the court for three games.

Glad all is well and with work, too!

Anne

just saying hi

Hi folks, just wanted to say hi. I've been soooooo busy lately and I miss

chatting with you all.

The good news lately is that hubby bought a small season ticket packet to

hockey. We love going to the games.

Also, daughter had her first daughter (3rd child). Our first granddaughter,

Monday. Brooklyn was 9lbs 5 oz, 21 inches.

So ya see, with work, it's been hectic!

hugs all around, will write more soon

Hi lorad,

I've been doing some work with Tidewater Literacy/Portsmouth Reads. What type

of business did you start and where are you..........can I apply for a job?

Being self employed had it's own set of problems. If I can be of any help,

please e-mail any time.

Good luck,

Anne

Hi Anne,

I'm in the Chicago area and working with Medicare and Health Insurance

claims, death benefits, bill paying and checkbook balancing. Don't let anyone

fool you into believing that the new Medicare Part D Prescription program is a

good one. It has a lot of flaws but should work for the very poor and very

ill. This is only MY opinion.

It continues to amaze me that the most complicated governmental programs are

for the elderly and lower income. How are they supposed to figure things

out? I help them but often do it pro-bono. I cannot justify accepting money

from those that have nothing....

Okay, off my soap box.

Do you own your own business?

Dear Lorad:

You are to be applauded. I've read the Medicare Part D plan and you are quite

correct. My Mother was better off with N. C.'s homegrown plan than she will be

with the Feds plan. She is elderly, but not very poor. I have a degree and am

well versed in medical terminology, but some of what they write in the handbook

is contradictory. How anyone who doesn't have some background in that or

insurance (which my husband has) keeps up with it is beyond me. Okay, now I'll

get off my soapbox, too.

My contribution to the cause of alleviating the problem has been to tutor

students who have a variety of reading problems.

Once upon a time, before HCV, I had my own business, repairing microscopes and

opthalmic equipment. Obviously, with the HCV that is no longer an option. I

closed it down in 1996 and wrote off the last bad debt in 2000, which oddly

enough was the account that I started my business with-Naval Hospital

ton, S. C.

I don't have the energy to work at anything full time, but I can see that

Tidewater Va. could probably use someone of your expertise and I certainly

wouldn't mind volunteering.

Glad to hear Bayley is doing well with the injectable MTX. My dh (also a

6' tall truck driver) wouldn't be able to give injections either I bet.

He faints when he has to have one, except when he gives blood, which is

weird. Hopefully Grant will get over that to be able to give the shots!

Hope you are feeling well also. Michele (19,spondy)

Bayly, on the other hand, is responding REALLY well to the injectable

He is a different boy!!

The nurse gave him his first injection 4 weeks back, while I held him.

The

hospital, but she ended up giving it, as she said she didn't want him

Last week, I was out when she just happened to stop by to help. So she

it again, for the same reason.

Fair dinkum! If I can give it, why can't Grant? A big strapping 6 foot-2

Anyhow, we'll have another shot at it this week (pardon the pun).

Hi Jo,

Yay! I'm glad to hear that Bayly's been feeling better. I hope this continues

for a very long time! Maybe as his Dad sees how well it's working, he'll begin

to feel less intimidated by the needles and syringes?

I hope you are feeling better.

Hi Paddy! Welcome to the board. I also have identical twin

17 yo boys that have aspergers, one has OCD ,the other

bipolar and both anxiety disorder. They will be 18 in Oct.

Boy, I'm proud of your sons going to get a job and one going

to college. I must say I'm envious. We have a LOOOONG way

before my kids are able to get a job or college. They can't

even get themselves up for school consistently yet. And the

bathing or lack thereof, that is one of our biggest issues.

Teeth too! One of my kids is interested in designing video

games too. Which is good considering thats ALL they want to

do. Play computer games and playstation 2. If we take them

away as punishment they will just sleep... Do your kids

drive yet? We haven't gotten that done either. They both

have an expired learners license that I made them get

because you have to have it for a year before you can get a

regular one. They have absolutely NO interest in learning to

drive.

I have to chuckle at your descriptions about the bathing

and clothes etc. My kids will wear their shirts inside out,

the pants are crooked and one wears black or blue socks with

his shorts. (luckily he doesn't wear sandles with them

too... *grin* ) Noah looks like Albert Einstein with his

curly hair wild and all over his head. n colored his

tennis shoes with purple and red magic markers . They draw

all over their arms with permanent marker and n even

drew a mustache and sideburns and scars on Noahs face while

he was sleeping with permanent marker on a school night.

Noah looked like he had a 5 oclock shadow all day... We're

talking about 17 yo not 5. And yet they 'don't want to be

different'... Beats me, anyway I got off on a tanget.

Welcome!! You will find so much support and help here..

My name is Paddy, I have identical twin boys with AS and OCD. They

will be turning 19 this September. My first born, has taken his

first job and plans to work for a year before going to college to be

the next big videogame designer. My other guy,Curtis is starting this

fall in college. He is going after his degree in the sciences. We

live in Canada(Alberta) so if any of you are close by please let me

know. I also have a 5 year old son (Quinn). He's my, your turning 40

and need a huge surprise, present. And boy what a surprise, but it

has been so very interesting not only to see the differences between

a singleton and twins but the difference between Aspie children and

non-Aspie as well. I also work in the field of mental health. I teach

social and cognitive skills through games that I devleoped for my own

boys.

We have had a lot of issues surrounding the OCD issue. To the point

that my two sons have been in gaged in serious fights. Police called,

social services interventios, the whole nine yards. Luckily no

fighting for the past year or so, but it is always there because they

still persist in compulsing at each other as a means of dealing with

their own stressers. Others issues are, the normal I'm sure.

Like, what's with the no-bathing?

Please zip your zipper, your cloths are inside out, you've have food

Anyway, I'm sure I have rambled.

So, I hope learn a lot and make some good friends along the way.

Hi Toni!

I can't believe how many twins I am coming across these days with AS.

I just found a set here in my home town. Of course most are all much

younger, so you are a rare find indeed! :-)

When my boys were much younger and there wasn't alot of consistant

information to be found, I really used to wonder what my guys future

would be. All I was told was, don't expect to much. Luckily I wasn't

inclined to listen to the doom and gloom report and just went on my

merry way. But now years later, I do see that I have been fortunate. My

sons, as wonderfully odd,and quriky as they are, could have been hit

harder by this disorder. So I do feel very lucky and even more

determined to get them where they want to go. This is what I think

anyway on my good days..lol on others, I just think about which one I

want to offer up first for the first ever brain transpalnt, should I

ever get the offer!

Anyway, thanks for the kind welcome. Already this place feels like it's

a real supportive and caring place to be.

Talk to you soon,

Paddy
