Guest guest
Amy, It is because of the material used and the time and expertise. When I got the off the shelf carbon braces, they cost $2500 and were not custom made, plus they were flimsy and broke. Mitch first does a cast of your legs and fits you with a test brace (made out of the standard plastic) and has you walk in those first to see what adjustments he may need to make. Then he makes the actual brace that he gives you and has you walk in for 1-2 days and makes any necessary adjustments during that period. He works with you for an entire week, so he sees minimal amount of patients at a time so he can give full attention to you. I am not saying that this actually rationalizes the price, but he spent more time with me than any other orthotist spends. Jackie
