Guest guest
Hi Sheila, I have tried New Balance shoes with the Helios braces, which Mitch recommended. They were not my size though, since I have small feet and there were no shoes in my size. Since I got back from Vegas, I found a pair of normal sneakers, which work with the braces, but they are not perfect. Could you please tell me what kind of Mephistos you are using? Maybe I could order those via the net, if they are not available in Sweden. Yes, tying the laces and putting braces + shoes on is really difficult for me, due to the weakness in my fingers. That's why I have been in search for velcro-strap shoes, but the kid's sizes are much too narrow, and there are not many velcro shoes for adults. Unfortunatelly, I can't stay off uneven ground! I don't care if it is hard to walk really, I just do it anyway, but it would be great if the Helios braces were more adapted for walking everywhere, not just indoors on a smooth floor. Also when Mitch made the braces he told me I would have to walk " a lot " the first day. So I said: Ok, then I can walk to my hotel, which was two miles away. Now, that's " a lot " to me, but he laughed, and said he meant just walking up and down in front of the clinic a couple of times. So, maybe I am too active for the braces, although I walk badly without them, but it doesn't stop me from walking a lot (as in miles, not meters). I also found info about braces called SAFO from an English company called Dorset Orthopaedic. They are made of silicon, so they are flexible, yet stable (according to the info from the company). Has anyone tried them? I am sure they are not as good as the Helios at restoring balance, but could maybe be an alternative outdoors, for me.
