No, at least not with mine, nor with any ice cream maker that works anything like mine does. The cooling liquid in the " bowls " that the ice cream is made in has to be frozen-- left at room temp, they won't stay frozen for too long. Ice cream should only need to sit out for 10 minutes or maybe 15 at the most. I don't see why that would be a problem. Commercial ice creams use anti-freeze to prevent the ice cream from getting to hard. Chris

Mine took what seemed like an hour, but the cream wasn't very cold. Mine isn't very efficient though -- it IS easy. It's a Rival, and uses a gel base that you store in the freezer, so you don't need ice cubes and salt. >Is it necessary to put the finished product in the >freezer afterwards, or can you store it in the maker >too so it doesn't get too hard? Yeah, you really do need to freeze it. Mine was REALLY soft and fluffy, almost like whip cream, before I froze it. It thaws quickly though, just leave it out 10 min or so, then scoop. -- Heidi
