Certainly I could have expressed my objections in a gentler and less entertaining (for me, anyway) manner, but why would I want to? I think it was an entirely appropriate response to a thoroughly unjustified assertion. As I see it, if you don't want the things you say to be ridiculed, you shouldn't say ridiculous things. I don't think has routinely gone out of his way to express undue respect for anything I've said. For example: " I have a very long reply to 's silly message in the works, but both of you are missing the point when I speak of energy inputs. " This was in reply to my rebuttal to his claim that producing fuel oil from plants without greater inputs of fossil fuels would violate the laws of thermodynamics(!). By the way, is that still forthcoming?

For the record, I wasn't offended. Nor do I consider either of these to be personal insults. The reason that I couldn't respond to the argument itself is that there was no argument to which I could respond. That was what I was pointing out. I don't think being insulting is entertaining at all ... if I did I'd be listening to some talk show host about now who does it for a living. Also I find it irritating when people are insulting in a way that means they don't respond to the topic ... it's called " changing the subject " ... A: I don't believe low-fat diets help with weight loss. B: You are always taking the high fat side! Can't you see you are being an idiot! Illogical ... -- Heidi
