Guest guest
Agreed. But almost anything has to be better than the low-fat garbage that has been pushed at us for way too many years. Almost bought some TV dinners the other night that were from 7-9 grams of carbs. Then I read the label! Margarine and soy! I might have gone with the little bit of soy, but forget the margarine. Guest guest
My personal favorite: Subway has been running radio ads. One promotes low-carb Atkins-friendly something (wrap, I think). The other promotes low-fat subs. They alternate air time. Guest guest
I'm waiting for the big guns to kick in and scream from the mountaintops how people are killing themselves by consuming Atkins-type food! Guest guest
Well, we're already killing ourselves by not taking lots of prescription drugs etc. I saw my ex-mother-in-law over the holidays, and she was reciting a litany of all the drugs she was taking - cholestorol-lowering one included. I don't remember the rest of them, but I remember that at the time, all I wanted to do was to tell her they were useless. Managed to keep my mouth shut though. As far as the big guns kicking in ... eh, just give the folks like Tropicana a little more time, I'm sure they'll be able to swing something. Guest guest
My understanding of the term " net carbs " is that it has no recognized definition. I encourage patients to take in carbs in the form of complex carbohydrates, pointing out the fiber content of foods and ask them to stay away from simple sugars, not just to prevent dumping, but due to their limited nutritional value. >>> " jbach11 " <knbach@...> 5/31/2007 8:37 am >>> We are working on a letter for pts who become pregnant after gastric bypass surgery. Our internist recommended in the letter that pts should look for low " net carbs " in protein bars. I said that this shouldn't make a difference with our patients, and it is more important to look at added sugar. Does anyone tell their patients to look at net carbs after surgery and why?
