Guest guest
>And the way this article reads, even documentation may not help much, though one consistent set of doctors seems to be the best " defense " .< I have read about and seen T.V. programs about parents who lost their kids because of the Muchassen diagnosis. It appears that it is used often and maliciously by DOCTORS who can't determine a child's medical problem. When Mom's insist that their child is ill, this label has " evolved " . I don't understand how a SD is allowed to make this diagnosis.
Guest guest
While I can understand how scary this article is, I know of one case where this is probably true!! She has gone from dr to dr for over 4 years, firing them when they can't " fix " her child or they don't agree with her on treatment or dx. She has been fighting the school for years and years, asking for services which are over and beyond what her children are entitled to, even if they are disabled. She has filed for DP and doesn't have a leg to stand on -- never sends her kid to school and claims that the school is failing to meet their obligations to educate this child!! And this is a professional woman. I think you need to read the article with an objective mind. I know that many times SDs will attack parents and blame them for their child's problems (BTDT), but the cases this article is really talking about aren't the everyday parent advocates, but the extremists. These are parents who are creating problems in their children to attract attention to themselves -- that is the main focus in this disorder. This article also stresses that educators err on the side of caution. I know we all tend to be battle-weary, but lots not borrow troubles.
