Guest guest
Hello , I am very new to this site. I too suffer from chronic pain. I was in an auto accident 9 years ago. I had three back surgeries , the first was two clean out two disc, the second one was a fusion and the third was to remove the rods and screws. Now I may be facing another fusion . Pain is my biggest problem. Constant Pain. Is fibro - fog, fibromalychia (sp) ??? I tried to spell it as it sounds but I am not a very good speller. Any way trying to catch on to the new lingo. lol Write back Thankks Maureen ANGELPra4u@... wrote: > From: ANGELPra4u@... > > In a message dated 1/28/2000 3:00:25 AM Central Standard Time, > chronic_painonelist writes: > > << > Some people say that by communicating by way of a computer, we take away > structure from face to face meetings. Guest guest
Maureen, Welcome to our list. You certainly have a full plate. I believe we do understand constant pain, but wish you didn't have it. What part(s) of your spine are involved? Unfortunately, spinal surgery often leads to some arthritis in the area of the incision. So you are damned if you do and damned if you don't. Do they know specifically what the pain is from? Guest guest
HelloKen, My L4/5, L5/S1 disc were bulging from the car accident in 1991. The doctor went in to clean them out , said it would only be a three inch incision, well when I woke up it was five and a half inches long. The disc were so bad he did exploritory on the disc above and below these. I lived with constant pain until 1995 January, then had a fusion done. The doc opened me up from my naval all the way down and pulled those two disc out. Then they turned me over and opened me up 10 inches and replaced the disc with bone from the bone bank , 6six screws and two rods to hold everything in place. In 1998 I had all the hardware removed but I still have all the problems yet. The pain from where everything used to be is awful. Only best thing is my hips do not lock up any more. Before it was so bad I would get stuck walking. My hips would lock from the hardware and I could not move. I did stop traffic whether in the middle of the street or in the grocery store. That is good I can walk and I do not get stuck. The bottom of my tail bone mid way up my back is my problem . My doctor counts disc from the bottom up. I do know different doctors count and label disc different. So if you start down by the tail bone that would be L1, L2, L3, L4, L5. Then starts the S1, S2, and so on. Now my biggest fear is the doc said there is no more to do for my pain. We should start with another discogram to isolate the disc, (s) that are now bad and talk about another fusion. My fusion has so much pressure on the disc above , I was warned this was going to happen to me but I did not think it would happen so soon. I thought I would have a few years break but I am not the lucky one I guess. The only way he will do a discogram is if I am ready for surgery again. The risk involved are infections and this is the test they do before surgery is done. I swore I would never go through another discogram again in my life. No one needs to go throughthat much pain with not medication, because that is what they are measuring is pain. I would like to hear what you know about the arthritis and all. I tend not to go back to my doctor until can not move. He is a spinal surgeon, one of the tops in the midwest. I just can not go through another surgery. Thanks Ken Keep in touch Maureen Turbin wrote: > > > Maureen, > > Welcome to our list. You certainly have a full plate. I believe we > do understand constant pain, but wish you didn't have it. Guest guest
Maureen, You certainly have been through a lot. What seems to be missing is pain control. Your doc has probably done as much as he possibly could. There are other doctors who possible could do more, but no matter how much surgery, you are still stuck with the basic issues of pain control It is not unusual to feel pain at a place where what has been causing it has been removed. radical microsurgery could *possibly* help some. but then you are still left with other sources of pain. It is most important that you get pain control. This is where the focus needs to be, and you need to work on this with your doctor or other doctors, if need be. And this can be a tough job. Guest guest
Hi , I know all the tens machines , then the mens machines, the steroid shots. My only problem is I had so many steroid shots ,my doc finally said no more. I was getting a few weeks releif, then they slowly did not work at all, finally the doc said no more. Only my face had already mooned, or has a moon shape now. Doc just forgot to tell me of that side effect. I have pain all the time. I can not sit , walk or lay down for too long. I positively can not sit on a couch. So you will know when I walk in your door and sit on your coffee table. I am almost at my end. I need releif. I can not keep popping the pain meds. Then I put the milk in the dishwasher and the hot coffee pot in the frig. I have to function. My home life is still with school age kids and they need help with their math. I just need releif. Honestly that last surgery, I would just as soon die then do that again. I swear. I am going to call my doc and see where he can refer me for pain mangement in my area, Omaha, Ne. I am sorry you can not have the metal out. That surgery was like going to the eye doctor compare to the surgery of putting it in. I did have great relief with it out but that has been almost 14 months ago and now I feel like I am back to square one. I have a severe pinching pain across the buttom of my but , all the way across. The pain shots down both legs. My back aches above the fusion. I can tell when I am not keeping my back straight. I do have a brace to wear but it is formed , rigid plastic, that feels as hard as metal. Just can not stand to wear it anymore. I just need relief. Hot baths work well, soon I will have a whirlpool, we are remodeling soon. Please God make it tomorrow. Well I wish you felt better. Just remember I am with you in pain. lol It does help.
