Guest guest
I enjoy reading well-written posts. We are lucky, on this list, to have knowledgeable people who can express themselves eloquently and use correct spelling, punctuation and capitalization. I think those people who know better, but ignore the rules of grammar look as uneducated as those who truly do not have much of an education. As somebody said, the internet is actually bringing back good writing :-) That's my tuppence worth! BTW I would enjoy it immensely if everybody spoke beautifully like Irons and Hugh Grant! Ha ha! Ducking for cover! and the K9's

It seems to me that spending so much of my " talking time " i.e., casual discussions, as writing, I'm starting to talk more like I write. It's the > flow of the thing, you see. @@@@@@@@@@@@ I find both of these thoughts fascinating, but upon reflection I realize that I have moved towards the " speechy writing " describes [but, uh, obviously not always though ] , while at the same time having the opposite experience of regarding speech. You see, with all the email I write I get my fill of written language, so I cherish opportunities to enjoy slangy, extremely informal, syntactically fragmented, lexically stylized and/or localized, phonologically unconventional speech in ways not possible in written media, in addition to all the opportunities for pragmatically/contextually mediated humor that require the unique resources of spoken language. In conversation I can try to get in touch with the dialectal variation that surrounds me in everyday life and try my hand at " jive talk " , etc. Mike SE Pennsylvania

See, that in itself is such a paragon of ... vocabulary. And so elegant to boot. 'Tis a wondrous thing. (No, I'm not sucking up, I just like the phrasing.) As far as the description itself - " slangy fragmented etc. " - ummmmmmmmm ..... I guess that would be me. :-D MFJ It's finally happened. I'm slightly mad.
