Guest guest
With all the unmotivated and pointless posts from the mostly (meaning there are exceptions) family-oriented culturally conservative demographic of this list proclaiming chemical purity, I have to wonder if this is a competition! If so, being of a competitive bent, I'll have to up the ante a bit: I've made it to 27 without even sampling a single alcoholic drink or cigarette. The only recreational drug I've used is caffeine, and very infrequently, with a mug of gourmet black tea like Lapsang Souchong when truly called for. I hasten to add that I have no particular objections to recreational drugs, and would have to fully agree with Chris' attitude towards them; in fact, I often think of my teetotalling as being a shortcoming in its excessive and unnecessary deviation from human norms. I don't have any particular reasons to eschew them (no hidden religious bugaboos or the like) and I don't think twice about the tiny bits of alcohol in food like kefir, vanilla, or neglected fruits. To be honest, I'm simply a cognitive heir to Salvador Dali, who put the matter plainly: " I don't take drugs: I am drugs. " (I have to add that this is only one of dozens of cases where I read Dali and feel like it is my own voice speaking...) For pleasure and diversion through domain-specific manipulation of bodily input, I can vouch for the infinite store of nuance in tweaks to the ingredients and proportions of spices in seaweed spice teas, which surely makes winery seem a sport for uncultured primitives. Additionally, and possibly simultaneously, the consciousness-altering resources of the post-Cage/Varese//Ayler musical avant-garde are probably unmatched in their union of intensity and safety, though perhaps no less financially burdensome than their crude chemical counterparts. Some options for those who prefer a low-risk lifestyle free of hobbyist pharmacology and skiing. Anxious to show I can waste bandwidth as well as the next person, Mike SE Pennsylvania
