Guest guest
I would question the Zyprexa. Everybody reacts differently, but my dad did very poorly on it and improved greatly with Seroquel. Try again with the hearing aid. I noticed that if my dad's wasn't in, or was turned off, he was much more confused. Maybe since she gave up the glasses, you could convince her to try the hearing aid again. Tell her she can only give up one at a time! If she never had auditory hallucinations, it should be less scary for her than the glasses. Good luck and God bless. Guest guest
dmaster Welcome to the group. In regards to your mom, I would suggest a different anti-psychotic/depressant. The Zyprexa had a terrible effect on my dad, and his psychiatrist recommended we take him off it. In the last few months of his life, we were stopping the drug, with it being completely stopped only 2-3 weeks before he passed away. I wish it had been stopped earlier...I feel it agrivated him more. Please know LBD changes a persons personality. What could have been a very vibrant, outgoing person may now be more withdrawn. It is such a strange disease and fluctuates so often. I would suggest taking your mom out yourself. Take her out for walks, icecream, or even just a ride. I used to do this with my dad and it seemed he became a different person. When the disease progressed to where I couldn't take dad out anymore, I would walk the halls with him and just spend quality time with him...doing whatever it was that made him happy at that time. I always used humor in my visits as seeing him smile was a glorious gift. You are added to my prayers and I hope to see more posts from you. Stay strong, ask questions, and vent when ever you need to. Sandie Des Moines, IA
Guest guest
Hi welcome to the group, Maybe the doctor can try a different medication. Lot's of medications have side effects. You didn't say if you mom has Lewy Body Disease? Is that why she is in assisted living? Is she seeing a neurologist, is he familiar with lewybody if that is what she has? Keep writing and tell us more about your mom. There are a lot of people in this group that can share their experience and wisdom with you and perhaps lead you down the right path. Also it sounds like your mom is pretty depressed, not that anyone would blame her. Maybe she can see a psychiatrist for another medication to help with this. Good luck, we are all in this together. Your mom is lucky to have you in her life, hang in there, and take care of yourself too. Guest guest
, you said your Mother improved on Seroquel. My Mom also takes Seroquel.......67 and half MG morning and night. But her delusions and hallucinations are still terrible,,,,,,,,daily! Dr had wanted to increase the dosage to 75 MG twice a day but I refused it. Afraid it was too much. What was your Mom's dose? Maybe she does need more, but her jerking movements with the parkinson's get worse the more she takes. Janet

Guest guest
Actually, it's my dad. He also takes Aricept and Zoloft. His convulsions at night were lessened when they reduced the Aricept and I know there was some kind of a problem with Zyprexa, so they switched to Seroquel. The problem is, the drugs to improve one problem exacerbate the other, and everybody reacts differently. I don't remember if you said you were dealing with a neurologist or what kind of Doc? Maybe a second opinion? Sometimes I think you might as well throw darts to decide what to do, there is no rhyme or reason to it! Hang in There:)
