If they are also light-colored or greyish that is often a sign of celiac or other IgA intolerance -- you have to find out, in that case, what it is you are reacting to. The most common culprits are gliadin (Wheat, barley, rye, including beer), casein, eggs, yeast, corn. You could try living off steak and potatoes for a week (use oil or lard, not butter, on the potatoes) and see if it gets better, then test the other foods out, one by one. -- Heidi

Guest guest
>can someone refresh me on casein? >(wow. and eggs, too?) Casein=milk products. Kefir works for me ok, but not unfermented dairy. Mind you, most people don't react to ALL of these, mostly just to one. The reaction is thought to be primarily genetic. As I've said before, it's interesting that most of the IgA allergenic foods are related to procreation ... seeds, eggs, milk ... with IgG allergies you get stuff like eggplant and tomatoes being allergenic. AFAIK the IgG allergies aren't so gut-oriented though, and the IgG allergies can come and go. -- Heidi

One week of possible lack of some nutrient won't hurt you, but if you are concerned, take a vitamin pill. Basically potatoes have lots of nutrients, so does steak. Add some liver and greens and it's not too bad at all (more than a lot of the world subsists on). A calcium tablet might be a good idea though. -- Heidi
Guest guest
I wonder if my cramping, muscle spasming everywhere is caused from lack of calcium. It is called " tetany " and I used to get it so bad my hands would clamp around the steering wheel when I drove. I take high doses of cal/mag/D from Costco ... it may be possible to get that much from foods but I think I don't absorb it well. I've been adding shrimp with shells to my kimchi too, and ground up anchovies. -- Heidi
Guest guest
Part of my injury is if I tense the back muscle I can feel it slowly getting tigheter and tigher ( quite rapidly ) and if I do nto movie it ( without contracting the muscle to do so ) It will tear as its still damaged. Costo is a brand? Ive always been wary of taking supplements. But I have to do something about this as soon as possible. _____ From: Heidi Schuppenhauer [mailto:heidis@...] Sent: Thursday, 12 February 2004 3:02 PM Subject: RE: malabsorption >I wonder if my cramping, muscle spasming everywhere is caused from lack of >calcium. > >( when I wake up in mornings I just remotely move leg and most of body goes >into a convulsed tense ) Calcium and magnesium. Guest guest
>Costo is a brand? Ive always been wary of taking supplements. Costco is the store, and it is their store brand. But any supplement with calcium, magnesium, and vit. D is probably good. The Costco ones are cheap. I tend to think the ideal is to get vitamins from food, but if a person has malabsorption, there might not be much choice. Also our modern diet doesn't include stuff like crunching bones and scales -- in some parts of the world they eat shrimp with the shells ON and whole little fish, bones and all, which is a lot of calcium. Anyway, getting tetany is a bad sign, it may mean your bones are getting weak too. Yeah, you should do something ASAP. -- Heidi

Guest guest
, >My stools are often light looking causeing them to float ( also broken up >and you could defiantly say it is a level of diarrhea ) though not bad Light stools usually means not enough bile is flowing which probably means your liver/gall bladder are chogged up (usually result of SAD diet). You can try a liver flush or maybe experiment with stuff like HCl for better digestion. Filippa

BioCeuticals : Ultra Muscleze is good. It's a Cal/Mag plus other bits and pieces supplement. We put a teaspoon of the powder straight into the mouth and wash down with water before bed. It costs AU$34.30 and is usually behind the counter not on the shelf (practitioner only product) - Filippa

Guest guest
Mine made tremendous progress when we started supplementing with vitamins. Her hair is starting to grow faster but she is three and has less hair than most two year olds. She didn't get teeth until she was 14 months old and I rarely have to trim her nails. I do believe it is related. I'm still researching malabsorption issues as a link in all this. Good luck.
