Hi everyone,

Since the birth of my son 6 weeks ago my taste for red meat/fish and other

animal products has greatly diminished. I pretty much force myself to eat it and

that's usually at dinner. If I eat a acouple eggs for brunch I don't want any

other form of animal food the entire day.

Prior to this I had eaten a morning smoothie with goat probiogurt, had some

form of animal protein

a nd veggies for lunch and then again protein and veggies for dinner.

The only thing I can think of is that I stopped working out but today I

started again.

What appeals to me is teff, amaranth, quinoa, crispy almonds , coconut milk

and cram, cow cream

so basically carbs and fat. Thing is I want to lose this weight .I'm not real

hungry during the day , I guess because I eat coconut cream and milk. I crave

porridge for breakfast (teff, amaranth etc..)

I remember craving fats big time the last several times and do lose weight

naturally while nursing (I've been nursing consecutively for the past 13 years)

but don't remember losing a taste for flesh foods. Also it is frustrating as I

didn't gain that much weight (20 pounds or so) but can't fit into any

clothes. I'm naturally thin so this is frustrating.

I have also been feeling faint/shaky not eating enough protein so this is a

concern.

I wouldn't force yourself to eat anything you don't want, unless you think there

is some kind of eating disorder going on, which it certainly doesn't sound like.

What do feel like eating? What DOES appeal to you?

Elainie, are you nursing your baby?

Are you breast feeding? If so, you need the calories. Worry about losing

weight later ... feeding the baby comes first. If you breastfeed you

will be losing a lot of fat through the milk and most people do lose

weight while breastfeeding.

elainie, i craved carbs big time (and fat too) for the first 4 to 6 months

or so. it was only when the baby hit 8 or 9 months that i started feeling

normal again foodwise. i think you really need the extra carbs when

breastfeeding those first months.

Let me second that - your baby needs you to eat well if you are

breastfeeding!!! I was down to 103 (I am a short woman with a petite

frame - barely five feet tall......and was still pleasantly round even at

103) after breastfeeding my first until he was 16 months. I gained 37 with

pounds during my pregnancy w/ him. Anyway, personal stats aside, eat well -

worry about losing the weight later.

Hello, I just wanted to add that I had a different appetite right after the

births of my two children. I remember wanting more fruit and veggies and juices

and not much heavy, meat or egg type foods. I also liked drinking lots of milk.

I don't know what caused this, but it went away after a little while.

Hi Elainie,

I also did not eat enough protein, though for different reasons, so I am all

too familiar w/the shaky feeling. Protein foods have a lot of zinc and iron

too, so be careful about minerals. If crispy nuts appeal to you, eat more of

those. I lost 75lb eating nuts as my source of protein, so I think they are

fine for weight loss, especially when soaked(which I was too stubborn to

do). Cashews, almonds, brazil nuts, pumpkin seeds and sunflower seeds have

better protein profiles than the other nuts/seeds.

Good luck! Thirteen years.. wow~ supermom! I'm at 2 3/4 years and keep

adding months to the ideal child spacing time. :)

Best wishes,

Michele

Elainie, I do think you should eat what you're craving (as long as it's not Ding

Dongs, LOL) and not eat what repulses you. I agree with what everyone has said,

eat healthy foods and eat well, and worry about the weight later.

I haven't had children but I do breed dogs, and my bitches do get foods while

lactating that they don't normally get, and that includes some carb sources such

as sweet potatos and oatmeal. In dogs, these foods are supportive of milk

production. None of my bitches has come out of their pregnancies fat.

For what it's worth. :)

You might be bloated? If your digestion is impaired, you might have

problems digesting meat too. My current food intolerances

really came to light after my 2nd pregnancy, don't know why, but

this seems to be a common thing. My belly was soooo bloated ...

when I finally figured them out I finally stopped looking preggers.

You could try food rotation, or enzymes, and see if either

helps. If your HCL is low, the enzymes will help a LOT.

HCL is really important in digesting meat, not so much so

for carbs.

I'm not bloated and don't have digestive issues( I eat plenty of high enzyme

food daily including fermented foods like kimchi, saurkraut etc.. with meals)

and have never had a problem digesting meat. Grains yes, especially brown

rice. In fact my tummy area looks pretty good, it's my thighs LOL.

Last year at this time I went on a raw food diet (vegan) and gained weight

from all the nuts (soaked) and olive oil I was consuming. I don't want to go

there again!

ACK! Nuts do me in. I have no off switch for good nuts. If it's just

in your thighs though, and you are nursing, I wouldn't worry about

it TOO much. You could keep a food diary ... sometimes just tracking

the amounts is enough to lose weight.
