Guest guest
Ms. Renzi has granted my permission to post this post on the nn listserv. It was originally posted on the continnum concept listserv at the below address. Can anyone reply to this - I can forward all emails to her or post to the cc list any replies as long as you give my permission. Looking forward to any/all responses, as I am curious about this as well. Nanette Re: [TCC] Nourishing Traditions- the book O.K., I have to introduce this pretty frightening concern. I'm hoping that you'll heed this warning, or that some of the very well read folks on this list will assuage my fears. Apparently a huge number of cows in many countries carry something called the Bovine Leukemia Virus.. on the net, I saw estimates ranging from 30 to 90 percent of cows. This retrovirus is supposed to be killed by pastuerization or freezing but can be present in raw milk or meat. It has been found extensively in human breast tissue and is being studied by a woman named Buehring at U.C. Berkeley to see if it is connected to breast cancer, and there is also concern about other cancers, including lymphatic cancers. Yikes and double yikes! I recently called our local organic/raw milk dairy to ask whether their cows are screened for the virus and they said they had never heard of it, though this is very hard to believe... maybe they were the secretaries and didn't bother to question the farmers. There are commercial products to screen for the virus, but not to eliminate it. I was very interested in using raw milk and following the Nourishing Traditions diet, especially since my kids have had big problems with tooth decay, so if someone has the means to debunk this concern, I will certainly welcome the information (as will everyone else I may now have terrified.) Thanks, ----------------------------------------------- Check out the archives at http://maelstrom.stjohns.edu/archives/CONTINUUM.html
Guest guest
Permission granted to pass this message along. My number one question is: How many people have been infected by this virus as a direct result of consuming raw milk or meat. And of those infected how many have contracted a disease from it. The information seems very skimpy to me. Were this virus serious and had it been around very long I would be very surprised if the no milk/no meat crowd would had not jumped on it. California has allowed the sale of raw milk for quite some time. Were this virus present there and causing damage I'm sure we would have known long ago. Again, our " friends " in the no milk/no meat bunch would have informed us. Judith Alta Kidder Re: [TCC] Nourishing Traditions- the book O.K., I have to introduce this pretty frightening concern.
