Guest guest
I was brushing my teeth this morning, and I remembered something that I had to share with the list. One day about 5 years ago, I was channel surfing the TV and I flipped past the Japanese TV station and noticed that it was a news program with subtitles. So, curious, I stopped to watch it for a few minutes. This story came on about these Japanese country people who had just come home from a long day of working in the fields. They were setting down to eat a bowl of soup with chopsticks (which I found incredible enough... I can barely navigate rice with the darn things). The interviewer asked them what they were eating and this man replied, " We are eating hemp soup. We always eat hemp soup, everyday, when we come home from working all day. It helps us to relax and it is very nutritious! " So, apparently, hemp is a NT food as well, as I am sure this country dwelling japanese man was not a hippy (haha). I checked this morning, and the nutritional content is high. I wanted to post a table, but it won't format using , so I did the best that I can. Go to http://ramabahama.mystarband.net/web/vgp/food.html for easier viewing. This is a nutrition comparison between hemp seeds, soybeans and corn (per 100 grams) The first number represents Hempseeds (whole), the second Hempseeds(hulled), 3rd is Soybeans, and 4th is Corn Protein 25g-31g-34g-9g Linolenic Acid (LNA) 6g-8.7g -1.2g - n/a Linoleic Acid (LA) 18g -27.6g - 8.8g- n/a LNA:LA ratio (1:3 optimal) 1:3 -1:3 -1:7- n/a GLA 0.5g- 0.7g- 0g- n/a Fiber 35g- 6g -4.5g- 12g Calcium 168mg -74mg -190mg- 7mg Phosphorous 830mg- n/a -470mg -210mg Iron 18mg- 4.7mg -7mg -2.7mg Thiamine 0.9mg -1.4mg -0.5mg- 0.4mg Riboflavin 1.1mg- 0.3mg- 0.2mg- 0.2mg So, I think that his soup of leaves and seeds probably is very nutritious and I am sure that it helped him with the stresses of his day, just as he said.
