Guest guest
Someone wanted more info on statistics on violence against women. All you have to do is type " violence against women statistics " into your search engine and you'll find the following. http://now.org/issues/violence/stats.html with lots of good links to the FBI and other researchers http://ojp.usdoj.gov/vawo/statistics.htm This is the US Dept of Justice Hopkins U puts out a report on worldwide violence against women on the web at http://www.jhuccp.org or http://www.endvaw.org If you want more info, try anything written by Dr. at www.dianarussell.com One of the first people to publicize the widespread nature of the sexual abuse of girls was Freud. He realized that about 1 in 3 of his female patients had been molested or raped as children. It's 100 years later, and nothing has changed. See Jeffery Masson's book " the Assault on Truth " for the whole history. Someone else asked " Where are their families to press charges? " Problem is, it *is* their family members committing the crimes. Crimes against women and girls are crimes of access, committed overwhelmingly by husbands, fathers, step-fathers and other intimates. it's not " absurd " to call statutory rape what it is--rape. Our society as a whole has decided that there has to be a cut-off point for when children are children and hence don't have enough power or information to make consent meaningful. Yes, there will always be some people who mature more quickly, but the powerless have to be protected. That's why it's illegal for men in their twenties to have sex with 15 year old girls. The term " teen pregnancy " general refers to girls under 18--not legal adults 18 and over. Lierre
