if one reduces animal products it is much easier to avoid sugar

there are many types of stevaia - some are great some are terrible -

keep trying

some people like xylitol - others react to it.

try sweet vegetable drink

chromium picolinate

spirulina

cook with sweet veggies etc

Her issue is coming off sugar.

Reggie I recommended Sugar Blues to her, since you had once

recommended it to me ...but since I am not 100% off sugar myself I

don't know how to suggest she begin.

She's already said she cannot do cold turkey, suggestions on how to

wean her off? She does not like Stevia. I gave her some today to try

when we met up this afternoon.

Thank you.

.....and thank you to all helping me with information on aneurysms!

Cold turkey!!! I'm not the right person to ask, I have to do or

die. Or whatever the expression is. I ate 2 huge vegan chocolate

chip cookies and downed it with a soy decaf late with sugar in it

and then started the next day no sugar Sept 1, 2000

I flipped, sweat, diarhhea all sorts of stuff. I even did no fruit

for a year I think. Brown rice syrup was the way to go for me.

Sugar Blues is not a vegan book but very intersting to read about

how bad for you it really is.

Why does she want to get off sugar? Not like it's a bad idea mind

you.

Wow, Reggie. That's intense. You are almost to your 6 year anniversary of

no sugar! Congrats!

I'm not sugar-free yet. I was for a time last year and it creeped back

in...mostly in salad dressings (I have a weakness for Annie's Balsamic

Vinegrette) when I was too lazy to whip up my own. I usually have no

refined sugar in the house, but I made a cake for my dh's birthday in March

and I have a tad of brown sugar left. I should throw it out. Once I had it

in my cabinets, I wound up making oatmeal cookies the next week, then

something else with brown sugar, etc. Insipid stuff, that sugar.

Do you remember how long it took you to get through the physical withdrawl?

Hey ,

Thanks. I'm far from sugar free, probably still discharging I've

had sugar in stuff a few times since but less than I can count on my

hand and I've suffered each time for it.

I had to do it, I was in horrible pain all the time and when I was

promised this would do it for me I said what do I have to lose.

The bad physical withdrawl things took over a week or so. I have to

tell you I don't remember for sure. My life was/is a blur very

often I just told myself this was something I had to do so I kept

going. Things tempt me so much less now because it's so easy to do

without so much without and simple to make on my own if not. I made

a 'cake' tonight used brown rice syrup, oat milk and a drop of juice

to sweeten.

I was once told that if I child doesn't eat sugar (ever ever ever)

if they try it, it will burn their tongue b/c it's acid (?) and

we're just used to it. Well, I didn't believe it till one time we

were at this sanctuary type place and in the gift shop Marlie was

playing with stuff and started to play with ladybug foil covered

chocolates. I was looking at some junk and all of a sudden she

screamed. I looked over at her and she was spitting out a piece of

the stuff. Someone had broken open a few and so she stuck a bit in

her mouth. I'm now a believer sugar is the devil.

Sadly, all three of my children know and love sugar. When Finn was 2 she

got a taste of something sugary at a family event (I think it was chocolate,

too) and she spit it out and wiped off her tongue. Of course, now she loves

the stuff.

Why do my posts take so long to come through sometimes? This was written at

And several of mine have never come through. I just typed out a

message for you that got lost!

I lived in Kobe, Japan for 3 years teaching English. It was an

interesting learning experience as a teacher and personally being in

a new culture. My memory is filled with all the sights, smells,

tastes, etc. What an unusual country!

After my first year in Japan, I met my teachers and attended their

macrobiotic school. I went almost every week to Osaka, and sometimes

every day during the week for intensive lectures and cooking

classes. It made my whole time there very worthwhile, because we had

so many cool truly Japanese cultural excursions. There was only one

other Western woman studying there, one of my dearest friends from

college.

I would recommend traveling there very heartily!

other Western woman studying there, one of my dearest friends from

college.

I would recommend traveling there very heartily!

Do you buy the stuff or do they just inhale when they have the

opportunity when they're out?

You are a great mom and make super meals for them, if you really

want don't bring it home (if it's home). If not we can only hope

for the best right?

Nope, I don't buy it. I did have some sugar in the house from a cake I made

for dh's birthday, but I threw that out last week.

When we go out, party or whatnot, that's when they get sugar. Overall, it

balances out since I don't buy it or (usually) keep it in the house. Last

night Noah (9) went to a birthday party. I told him he could make his own

choices about what to eat, but I asked that he scrape any dyed icing off the

cake. He brought home his party favor, which was a huge pixie stick, and he

threw it away when he got home.
