Guest guest
The following citations are made in Alcedo et al., " Regulation of C. Elegans Longevity by Specific Gustatory and Olfactory Neurons, " _Neuron_ Vol 41, Jan 2004: _____ Calorically restricted animals develop more slowly than normal, are thin, and have reduced fecundity (Klass, 1977). ______ Caloric restriction extends life span and also delays reproduction (Klass, 1977; Koubova and Guarente, 2003). ______ It's worth noting that when rats with reduced reproductive activity are fed higher-calorie diets, the ability to reproduce resumes in tact, even at ages where control rats were no longer able to reproduce or were dead. So the effect of calorie restriction is to delay growth, reproduction, and death, delaying the former two until a time when resources are more abundant, rather than permanently harming that capacity.
