Guest guest
I finally got a chance to do some minimal rooting around yesterday looking up various things, and I found the bit on the WAPF site about produce labels having " 8 " at the start of the numbering to indicate GM origin. But I haven't been able to find anything anywhere on other items - namely other packaged and/or processed foods. I went looking around at the few packaged/instafoods I still have around here, and wasn't able to find anything terribly telling. The only thing I DID notice (in the grocery store) was that a bottle of salad dressing that contained high fructose corn syrup DID have an " 8 " off to the side of the actual bar code, but didn't have time to check other items while I was there. IS there any similar labelling requirement for other " foods " , or is it really just the produce? Thanks! MFJ Any moment in which you feel like dancing is a perfect moment. Guest guest
Mercola talked about this a month or so ago. It just so happened that I had to go to the grocery store that day, so I looked for those codes but did not find anything similar to what he said. The organic vegetables had 4 numbers, no 8s or 9s. The convention stuff didn't either. It's either not really a labeling requirement or the requirement has not caught up with the foods that are in transit. Guest guest
I think it is just produce, because I buy organic bulk products with and 8 beginning the code. Here's the lowdown: Organic produce is five digits beginning with 9. Conventional produce is a four digit long code starting with 4. I believe four digit starting with 3 is for imported produce, cmiiw. And the GMO code is five digits starting with 8. I don't think it's in use yet though (because GMO producers don't want/have to label). My produce guy gave me this info. Deanna IS there any similar labelling requirement for other " foods " , or is it really just the produce? Thanks! MFJ Any moment in which you feel like dancing is a perfect moment. Well, I have to go to both an organic market and a regular grocery store in the next few days, I guess I should snoop around some more (at least with the produce). Wish there was something for other items, though - I'm slowly but surely grabbing and making more things from NT as substitutes for things I used to buy a lot (like refried beans and crispy nuts and sech) but every once in a while ...
