Guest guest
Hi all, I have read that 20% of children with ASD could have a mitochondrial dysfunction. How many of your children have it? What complex is it? What treatment and effectiveness of medication? .....also it has something to do with protein....can anyone explain this please... I am just trying to establish how common it really is!
Guest guest
I think it is about 40% No one's child has MtD by response. Not very common then! > > Hi all, > > I have read that 20% of children with ASD could have a mitochondrial > dysfunction. > > How many of your children have it? > > What complex is it? > > What treatment and effectiveness of medication? > > ....also > > it has something to do with protein....can anyone explain this please... > > I am just trying to establish how common it really is! >

Guest guest
How do you know he has it? It is very difficult to test for. There are very few recognised tests Sally ru345mins wrote: > > That high!! > Does anyone know any groups or someone can contact me off line about > MtD. Guest guest
We had mitochondrial damage. Basically it interferes with energy production. I am unaware of it's relationship to protein, maybe someone more science orientated could answer this. Chelation was the cure; some suppplements which are helpful, but not here are; CoQ10, Acetyl l carnitine, magnesium malate. Helpful here was Biotin. >> Hi all,> > I have read that 20% of children with ASD could have a mitochondrial > dysfunction.> > How many of your children have it?> > What complex is it?> > What treatment and effectiveness of medication?> > ....also> > it has something to do with protein....can anyone explain this please...> > I am just trying to establish how common it really is!>
Guest guest
What are the differences between a mitochodrial disorder and a metabolic disorder .... are they the same or connected? Not sure if it is relevant but ds is being investigated by metabolic doc for a likely metabolic disorder, (he is so far showing problems with the Valine pathway and hydroxy C4 carnitine). Have to add though that ds is not just autistic but has a string of other conditions going on. emily > > > > Hi all, > > > > I have read that 20% of children with ASD could have a > mitochondrial > > dysfunction. > > > > How many of your children have it? > > > > What complex is it? > > > > What treatment and effectiveness of medication? > > > > ....also > > > > it has something to do with protein....can anyone explain this > please... > > > > I am just trying to establish how common it really is! > > >
Guest guest
Thanks for that I have telephone appointment with DAN tomorrow and trying to get as much info as possible on it for questions, treatments etc,. Sally my boy has had thousands of pounds of tests done....which has shown a protein/autoimmune/metabolic/mitchondrial dysfunction. The last one being Comp Urine Organic Acid test. my boy has various sub functioning metabolic pathways (says in letter to Paed)....I don't understand the differnce only metabolic is the pump and mitochondrial changes the food etc into the energy to be pumped.....he is very sick he has ammonia toxicity also (scary reading this stuff)...he is always ill for every week he is well. What I have read he will need mito coctails ( mentioned a few) chelation and maybe HBOT. To be honest I am frightened of what has come up....the Paed refused to accept MtD as he said it does not exsist...only disrder/disease but he referring my son's results to a metobolic specialist to look at it all....he is phoning me in the week. A paper mentioned a protein in mitochondria that is effected I will look for it again and post it here...if I am allowed. Any other help/infor out here for me to know? > > > > Hi all, > > > > I have read that 20% of children with ASD could have a > mitochondrial > > dysfunction. > > > > How many of your children have it? > > > > What complex is it? > > > > What treatment and effectiveness of medication? > > > > ....also > > > > it has something to do with protein....can anyone explain this > please... > > > > I am just trying to establish how common it really is! > > >

Guest guest
Thanks . It mentions protein import in this also....something that is sticking out for me as my son is depleted in every protein going. I think deep down that his autism stems from a few disorders including autoimmune, metabolic and now mitochondrial all factors that have resulted in this autism. But this is my opinion and I am no scientist. Their is one paper I am trying to get to read but cant at the moment, if anyone else has read it could you explain the main findings/theories etc if possible. Myelin, mitochondria, and autoimmunity: What's the connection? Carelli and Bellan Neurology.2008; 70: 1075-1076 This may be a key (or the closest to what my son has) finding. > > > > > > > > Hi all, > > > > > > > > I have read that 20% of children with ASD could have a > > > mitochondrial > > > > dysfunction. > > > > > > > > How many of your children have it? > > > > > > > > What complex is it? > > > > > > > > What treatment and effectiveness of medication? > > > > > > > > ....also > > > > > > > > it has something to do with protein....can anyone explain this > > > please... > > > > > > > > I am just trying to establish how common it really is! > > > > > > > > > > > > > ------------------------------------------------------------------ ------ > > > > No virus found in this incoming message. > > Checked by AVG. > > Version: 7.5.549 / Virus Database: 270.8.3/1748 - Release Date: 26/10/2008 19:53 > > >

Guest guest
According to Cutler, anyone with mercury problems is also going to have mitochondrial issues. So, it could be higher than 40%, especially if one assumes that mercury wouldn't be the only source of mito issues. If you look at the symptoms of mito problems, they are really widespread among our kids Trying the mito supps is something that I think is worthwhile. Lots of the supps work for different things anyway, not just to support/ameliorate mito function. For my son, the mito supps weren't a huge wow, but definitely worthwhile and he continues to take them. As far as low amino acids, this too is very commong among our kids. Lots of reason, IME, including low stomach acid, poor enzyme function and gut damage, limited diet. We used a custom blend amino supp for a while. Just tried a generic blend and my son didn't seem to tolerate it. Now I'm really just pushing easily digested proteins (for example eggs, soaked grains like spelt which is high in protein, gently cooked meats, cultured milk, etc). Guest guest
----- Original Message ----- From: ru345mins Thanks for that I have telephone appointment with DAN tomorrow and trying to get as much info as possible on it for questions, treatments etc,. ===>You can spend a lot of time on this, but there is no cure for mitochondrial disease/dysfunction, save for getting the metals out to allow the mitochrondria to function properly. Treatment *is* chelation, although you can give the nutrients to help the symptoms in the meantime. It may be interesting to note that practically *none* of the mitochondrial supplements did anything we could see her with her low energy levels and/or hypotonia which were caused by the mitochondrial damage. Only Biotin (incidentally this is what Andy Cutler told me and I did not listen, gave the much more expensive CoQ10, Acetyl l carnitine, Idebednone, Benfotiamine, etc). They all did nothing. The 5-10 biotin per meal helped both the hypotonia, low energy levels and yeast as well! With chelation...this along with everything else....is gone. > >> > Hi all,> > > > I have read that 20% of children with ASD could have a > mitochondrial > > dysfunction.> > > > How many of your children have it?> > > > What complex is it?> > > > What treatment and effectiveness of medication?> > > > ....also> > > > it has something to do with protein....can anyone explain this > please...> > > > I am just trying to establish how common it really is!> >>

Guest guest
, The mitochondria ( in every cell ) is the 'organ' where respiration takes place. You wouldn't necessarily see respiration problems in your son such as wheezing or the like. Instead, you would see a child who is quite tired, lacking in energy, out of sorts etc. My daughter is doing her GSCE biology at the moment and I had to help her review all this last week. stephaniesirr schrieb: > > This seems to imply that Mtd is linked to respiratory problems or am > I misreading this. we've never had any signs of that. > > > > > > > > > > > > Hi all, > > > > > > > > > > I have read that 20% of children with ASD could have a > > > > mitochondrial > > > > > dysfunction. > > > > > > > > > > How many of your children have it? > > > > > > > > > > What complex is it? > > > > > > > > > > What treatment and effectiveness of medication? > > > > > > > > > > ....also > > > > > > > > > > it has something to do with protein....can anyone explain > this > > > > please... > > > > > > > > > > I am just trying to establish how common it really is! > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > ---------------------------------------------------------- > ------- > > > > > > No virus found in this incoming message. > > > Checked by AVG. > > > Version: 7.5.549 / Virus Database: 270.8.3/1748 - Release Date: > 26/10/2008 19:53 > > > > > > > > ------------------------------------------------------------------------ > > No virus found in this incoming message. > Checked by AVG. > Version: 7.5.549 / Virus Database: 270.8.3/1748 - Release Date: 26/10/2008 19:53 >
