Thanks Mandi. Sorry but can you tell me where you get it from,Nutricentre don't seem to do these (apart from ionic manganese).

>>I get it from the USA, I can always get you some, pretty cheap, do want to try Norman on some first and see how he goes? I use 100mg caps, that's a mighty dose, but like Anita's lad Sam needs LOTS

Could you say for what reasons that you take manganese? I took some

because I have poor hearing (sudden onset) but it did'nt seem to make

much difference.

ds has low blood manganese levels and has epilepsy.

Several research studies show that blood and hair manganese levels are

low in epileptics, with the correlation that those typically having the

highest seizure rates show the lowest levels of manganese.

WOW! Yes that's a mighty dose, I'd like to try this but I'd probably

give 1/4 capsule (25mg) first. Is Sam needing lots from blood levels

being low?

They must have tried supplementing them. Does it not help?

Hi Sally,

I started supplementing the manganese (on my own) at very low dosage,

before we had the bloods levels done. I can't say for certain that

it has had an effect or not - for reasons that ds has really complex

epilepsy and a whole host of other things going on (myelination

problems, chromosome deletion, and now more recently possibility of

identifying a metabolic/mito condition - somehow hope that it is not!).

It might also be that he needs a higher dosage of the manganese?????

But I have also read that although manganese is low in epileptics, when

it is supplemented there has not been any clear evidence/research(?) to

show/indicate that it has helped control/reduce the seizures.

ds is usually one to show very, very tiny improvements (hard to see kind

of thing amongst everything else going on). The most definite

improvement seizure wise I will always say was the P5P and magnesium.

thanks . I've seen this before -- supplementation not helping a

deficit. I suppose that it's a metabolic block rather than a shortage in

the diet. I'll look for some research. Let me know off-list how the home

ed is going? What made you do it?
