Guest guest
Amber, Sounds like you've made a good choice for you. The predisone very likely should help with the joint pain - it's often used with lupus joint pain. Good luck and keep us posted how you are feeling! Guest guest
I don't know if you are familar with the book Coping With Prednisone by Eugenia Zukerman----ISBN #0312195702, but it is a great book that goes into detail about a young woman who took prednisone and how she coped. Her sister was a doctor and helped her. Hope this is of some value to someone. Chris
Guest guest
I read the book also. I thought it was very helpful. Had a lot of good info. Thanks for mentioning it. This was when I was on high doses of prednisone and I forgot that I even read it. That shows how spaced we can get.
Guest guest
As a Buddhist I must be somewhere low in the fractional minority. As a nontheist, I find the kinds of concerns that Christians perseverate on to be really bizarre. No biggie though... Thankfully, this list is more focused on food than it is on foundational philosophical views. The need to eat transcends conceptual fixations. jo On Friday, February 27, 2004, at 12:51 AM, wrote: > I'd guess (I'm big on guessing) that something like 90% > of this list shares your traditional Christian values. Guest guest
Hey Jeanetta, Sorry I've been so scarce, -been really really busy lately...I'm sure you know what I'm talking about! Saw your NTG problem and thought I'd share a trick I tell my students re: NTG. First, its a pain to work with a fraction like 1/150 I always tell my students just to memorize the conversion and if they look at the 2 other strengths the SL tabs come in together its a little easier to remember: NTG 0.4mg = 1/150gr 0.3mg = 1/200gr 0.2mg = 1/300gr you can kind of see the 4-3-2 then the 3 has the 2 on the bottom and the 2 has the 3 on the bottom kinda criss-cross.....much easier to write this on the board! I also tell them if they forget this and they need to know how much 1/150 of a grain is, remember that in story problems " OF " means multiply. So....1/150 of a grain (1 grain = 60mg) then you can multiply 1/150 x 60. Get it? Hope this helps. Hope all is well, I sent you my number and I'm working nights, I get home about midnight give me a call, lets catch up. Guest guest
Dear Trisha,  I am soooooooooo glad that you have posted. I know what you mean here! And I think that all students should be able to do the math. But some students and even I sometimes need a way to " check " ' to see if we are doing something right or a fail safe method to keep us on the right track!  So if it works..... use it!  We all have our little tricks and I have one that I use when I teach about Tylenol with codiene.  Tylenol #1 = 1/8 grain = 7.5 mg (of codiene) Tylenol #2 = 1/4 grain = 15 mg (of codiene) Tylenol #3= 1/2 grain = 30 mg (of codiene) Tylenol #4 = 1   grain = 60 mg (of codiene)  I say look at the Tyl#3 and put that with the '30' (easy to recall three and thirty) Then multiply x 2 to get 60 with Tyl l#4 (going down the ladder) or KNOW that 1 grain = 60 mg But Divide by 2 (going up the ladder) so 1/2 dividee by 2 = 1/4, 30 divided by 2 = 15mg 1/4 divided by 2 = 1/8 and 15 divided by 2 = 7.5mg My students MUST show all math work to prove that they understand HOW to get the answer. BUT they use this method  for a quick recall and to double check their math.   BOTH of OUR methods HELP our students to learn TRICKS to reassure that THERI maths is on the right track and that there is an alternative. This reassurance is sometimes all that a student needs in order go forward to learn the math that he or she once thought was difficult. Some times people/students just need that 'shot' in teh arm to give them confidence to go on or continue or forge ahead. BRAVO to Trisha for keeping it REAL and for SHARING!   As seasoned educators we have learned what works both for our students and for ourselves as instructors to best help the classroom student. Sometimes it does not come across well on the internet without our voice(s).  But we both know that these methods do work and are tried and true.  Much Respect, Please post more often! Guest guest
Forgot to say Going down the ladder multiply 1/2 grain by 2 = 1 grain or know that 1 grain =60 mg (already said 30 x 2 = 60 mg)  Jeanetta   Jeanetta's PTCB Study Group Messages In This Digest (7 Messages) 1a. Guest guest
Spine Disorders Support GroupHi Everyone, I've come back from having lumbar laminectomy surgery in August. Compared to the cervical fusion and lamionectomy, it was a piece of cake. There was minimal pain and discomfort after. I'm now dealing with foot drop in the right foot/ankle. I've been in physical therapy now for about three weeks which is inclusive of wonderful warm water pool therapy. I'm not having much improvement, if any. The next step is probably going to be to investigate an orthotic appliance for my ankle. My therapist was going to speak with my surgeon and ask for his recommendation. Citi Sue, from your comments in your postings, I am thinking you live somewhere in or near Michigan as you mentioned the U of MI. That's where I had both of my surgeries. I would very highly recommend my neurosurgeon there. I'm a patient there for all of my health care, and the neurologists and neurosurgeon helped me through the maze of symptoms and diagnostics. I'm more than happy with my outcome from both surgeries. Sue, if you're interested in details, you can email me off list at arlmar@... If you have any questions, I'd be happy to try to answer them for you. BTW, I am noticing a pretty severe memory loss and I'm thinking it's effects are from anesthesia. Is anyone else recognizing this as part of the aftermath of surgery? Arlene in MI
Guest guest
Hi Arlene, I appreciate the offer.. Yeah, I live in MI. Sorry to hear about your foot. Mine seems to be just my toe. I am going to be trying physical therapy too. I was supposed to go make an appt. today, but I am recovering from a pretty rough patch.. I hear ya on the memory stuff, I think I relate mine to pain. I know I forget a lot of stuff after I get over a rough bout with pain. I feel like I'm starting all over again everytime. But I have a lot of general memory lapses I think are from a smack on a cement floor to the head. Talk about eye pain! Sorry it took so long to get back to you.. still having a rough patch, and feeling kind of out of it yet. take care. sue. > > Spine Disorders Support GroupHi Everyone, > > I've come back from having lumbar laminectomy surgery in August.
