Guest guest
Hi I'm also new here and have just been scanning posts for a bit before taking the plunge and asking for some help. My third child is 8yrs and has autism. He tested 'positive' for gluten issues when he was 5 (paul shattock urine test - However having heard speaking, a positive result doesn't at all guarantee improvement with the diet). We started Eye-Q. We followed the GFCF diet very strictly for a year (by strictly I mean I didn't let GFCF products anywhere near him and cut out other obvious nasties as well - colourings, additives, MSG etc) I did the diet as well - I suffer from ME and also got the same result from the urine test as my son. For myelf I experienced no obvious change on the diet. My son showed minor improvements that were not necessarily a result of the diet. There was no withdrawal symptoms or scratching around for crumbs of forbidden foods or anything like that. After a year we stopped the diet and nothing got any worse (although his teacher thought his behaviour worsened in school a little but I didn't experience this at home). Now a couple of years later I'm looking at possibly going the biomedical route again. My son has never had any obvious bowel issues, the main symptom that tells me something is out of balance are a persistent rash of spots on his cheeks. Since I have ME myself and 3 other children including a 6mth old I'm very limited for time and energy. I'm also way behind many of you in my understanding of biomedical interventions. Where do I start in looking at how I can help my son. Let me know if you need me to give more info about my son. thanks Charlotte
Guest guest
If I could do it all over again, I would start with the SCD diet (or rather the gaps version of it) and I recommend 'Gut and psychology syndrome' by Natasha McBride. Fish oils (I use MorEpa), Cod Liver Oil (I use Green pastures, Blue ice CLO), and enzymes (Houston) and probiotics (I use VSL3) also Betaine and Pepsin and multi vits (not sure which one to recommend, probably Brainchild)- this is explained in the book, above.
