Guest guest
how wonderful, how just great. I'm so pleased for you. Did you get any problems when you started -- hyperness etc? and how fast did you build up? I'll do some more research. I feel an overwhelming urge to try myself. The sleeping is a bit sad though. I like sleep, you could try melatonin. xx Sally bty462988 wrote: > > Hi, > > Just wanted to post an update on my 6 yr old sons progress on Nicotine > patches. Guest guest
that is fantastic!! So glad for you, keep those improvements coming )) natasa x Hi, Just wanted to post an update on my 6 yr old sons progress on Nicotine patches. He is up to one patch a day and has been for over a fortnight. We have been using the patches for a month on Saturday. So far we have seen a lot of improvements!! and these are in all areas of his development. His school (he attends a mainstream school 3 afternoons a week) have noticed a change in him and they are unaware of the patches, and his team of home tutors are seeing big improvements across the board. My son (pretty much non verbal) is vocalising better and has been more spontaneous with his words, mands and tacts. His self help skills have improved (eg has taken himself to the toilet several times in the last week and he doesn't normally do this) He is using more words in general and showing a lot more concentration (eg. in his last session at school they decided the whole school were going to watch a dvd in the hall - and he sat through nearly an hour and half of it watching!!!!!) He is making us more aware of his wants (he is now saying no and yes which he wasn't before and doing little things like he spontaneously requested a " different " pen at school when given a green one, then he picked up a blue pen! he is seems more actively involved in things too, his headmistress commented on how much he seemed to enjoy the pantomime they had at the school last week and how engaged in it he was too!! His bowel movements and consistency etc, seem to have improved in the last week also, and his stomach is looking really normal - instead of distended! We have been on the SCD diet for over a year and we still see bloating. Anyway - I am very pleased so far...they are little moves, but in the right direction..... On the negative side, we have seen a decline in sleep, but more so in him going off to sleep than anything else..He is seeming to stay asleep ok once he is asleep, and even sleeping in later! but this is probably because he is taking so much longer to get off!! Guest guest
Hi Sophie, Wonderful! Can I just ask why you decided to try nicotine. Were your inflammation levels high? My ds neopt/biopt is way out of range so it looks like we have serious inflammation issues. We are due to start patches tomorrow. 1/4 of a 7mg patch. We are to take it off an hour before bed to help with settling. Also, hubby said when he was on patches, if he forgot to take it off he'd have the most vivid weird dreams. I've also heard they can cause sleep walking! Again, great news! jane x p.s wish us luck! > > Hi, > > Just wanted to post an update on my 6 yr old sons progress on Nicotine patches. Guest guest
Hi Jane, I choose to do the patches as I consult with Dr Bradstreet and he told us how well other kids with my sons issues were doing on the patches so I looked into them, and yes my sons test results showed major inflammation also. Havent been told to remove them an hour before bed so I am going to try that, thanks! Hope you see good things with your child!!! All the best, Sophie x > > > > Hi, > > > > Just wanted to post an update on my 6 yr old sons progress on > Nicotine patches. He is up > > to one patch a day and has been for over a fortnight. Guest guest
---Dear Sophie, I'm glad to hear that your child is getting better on this intervention. However I find hard to understand this approach. Is there any scientific finding using nicotine patch in order to reduce the inflammation? Is the inflammation in the gut?,my son has also. Please tell us more if you know how Dr Bradstreet explains using nicotine patch to autistic kids.. Thanks.. Wish you all the best Nevin
Guest guest
so that's (1) 7 mg patch per day? did you start there or work up, I think I remember hearing many people starting with 1/4 of a patch. -Jenna bty462988 wrote: Hi, Just wanted to post an update on my 6 yr old sons progress on Nicotine patches. Guest guest
We are using 7 mg patches from Novartis which i got online from the US as these were reommended by my US Dan doc. We started on a 1/4 for 3 days then went up to a 1/2 for a week. We then went on to 1 patch. Guest guest
Hi Nikki We had urine tested at the french lab ee Auguste (Labbio) Test was called urinary neopterine profile Nic's ref has always been low (0.1 but should be between 0.4 - 0.9) But his Neopterin is always sky high. His last result was 899 and the ref was 170-360. jane x > > > Jane, > > what is the test for neopt/biopt? is it blood, urine, ......? > > tia, Nikki x > > > > Hi Sophie, > > > > Wonderful! Guest guest
Hi Sophie, Do you know if the gains are permanent or patch dependent? How long does he have to use them for? Would you remain with 7mg patches or are there plans to work up to higher dosages ie 14mg patches? Lastly, how do you keep the patches on him! I am using the patches too and have seen smaller but similar progress as my son keeps peeling them off! Guest guest
Hello My son used to peel them off too that’s why I put it on his back ( near to his shoulder) ! How long does he have to use them for? Would you remain with 7mg patches or are there plans to work up to higher dosages ie 14mg patches? Lastly, how do you keep the patches on him! I am using the patches too and have seen smaller but similar progress as my son keeps peeling them off! Guest guest
I used a big strip of cloth/medical tap on top of the patch. I too found that the cut patches were too small to stay stuck. The first day I used tape, and the patch stayed on, Jack came home with a sticker on his shirt. I asked what it was for. He said he wrote 9 sentences (without being reminded to keep going and focus) This is absolutely a huge deal for us!!!! I stick them almost on his butt / lower back (covered by his underwear). Because they change for PE class, I really don't need the school freaking out about it! -Jenna katia wrote: Hello My son used to peel them off too that’s why I put it on his back ( near to his shoulder) ! Guest guest
Agile little thing ain't he. >>Actually he's getting quite a porker but his desire to have NOTHNG on not even a 1/4 patch is intense. Even if he asks for a plaster its only on for 30 secs. I think putting it on at night will be the only way and he'll know its there when he wakes up, might try that tonight Mandi x
Guest guest
I am hoping they are permanent! but I don't really know! I am looking at the patches as an aid in allowing him to focus and therefore learn. Hopefully he will retain what he has learnt. I read one paper that said on patients with MS, the gains seen with the use of a patch were still evident for up to 3 weeks after removal. We are staying on a fixed dose of 7mg. I put my sons patches on his back in between his shoulders. I always move it a bit so I don't keep putting it on the same place.
