Guest guest
A good stoneware pot should not be doing this. Thats why its stoneware. The ONLY references I can find are from Lead poisoning- Lead is no longer allowed in ceramics Not in the clay nor the glazes. In fact it had been outlawed already in the 80's when I was an avid potter at least in the USA. I can see that you wouldn't want to brew your tea from an old ceramic which still contains the lead, but to make a blanket statement about don't brew in ceramic is really irrational and quite a bit of overkill. Stoneware is actually glass so that means that glass is not safe either. zoe Thursday, December 7, 2006, 8:00:06 PM, you wrote: k can extract chemicals out of ceramic while its growing. zoe W wrote: Whats wrong with ceramic ? Do you have to sterilize first? I have so many questions. If anyone could help me I would be most grateful. Guest guest
I too am a potter for over 30 years. I was instructed not to brew Ktea in anything other than clear glass by someone who got K accepted by FDA in Cal. in 1971 as a food source. My understanding of stoneware is hi fired clay and it does contain ingredients that K can chelate while in the growing process. I am only sharing what I have been told. As I have beautiful bowls fired to cone10 and have been advised not to use. Same as not to use anything but stainless steel to boil the distilled water and sugar to make the tea and to avoid plastic always. I don't understand it and I used a pendulum to test it and it seems to be correct info.. AND by no means am I an expert... a zoe W wrote: A good stoneware pot should not be doing this.
