,

Don't you think the dried coconut has sugar? We looked at it and could see

sugar crystals.

It's sickly sweet and we don't use it because it;s been sweetened as far as

I'm concerned.

Is their palm oil the same as Tropical Traditions one?

Yes I've seen the sugar. Looks perhaps to be fructose? Some bags varies

too as far as the amount.

I'm almost 100% sure it's sugar. There's no coconut that sweet.

I don't think they're intentionally lying. I think there's a miscommunication

with the supplier (overseas) as that's pretty common. This stuff is sweeter

than Rapadura.

Amy-

>Family Naturals?

I love their South Pacific and Indian coconut oils, and their coconut cream

is incredibly delicious. I haven't tried their palm oil yet, but I expect

it'll be great, and their freeze-dried coconut tastes amazingly delicious,

though it's disturbingly sweet. I do have to warn you, though: the coconut

cream you can order on the site, in the cardboard boxes, has some gum in

it. This has *not* been entirely friendly to my digestion. It turns out

they have a gum-free cream in glass bottles, but you have to order it by

phone. I'm kind of ticked they don't mention either issue on their site,

but they do seem like nice people and they have some great products, so...

Thanks for the input- they are no longer carrying the South Pacific oil so I

ordered the ino one- will see how I like it- they are out of coconut

cream but I will order some of that next month..

You could actually see sugar crystals? That's interesting and disturbing,

because they swear to god there's no added sugar, that it's just the

freeze-drying process making it sweeter somehow, supposedly, I guess, by

breaking down some starch into sugar. I suppose that could account for the

crystals, but I haven't used the coconut because of the sweetness. I can't

tolerate sugar.

>Is their palm oil the same as Tropical Traditions one?

Since I haven't gotten it yet I'm not sure, but I think so.

Starches DO break down into sugar though, with the right enzymes, which

may happen as it dries. Amazake is really sweet, made from rice. A starch

is basically two or more sugars hooked together ... when they break

apart they ARE sugar, and it does make crystals. Of course that

sugar would have all the issues of any other sugar, probably!

Which isn't to say they don't add it, but WFN seems like a rather

upstanding company and I can't imagine they lying about something

like that (esp. as mislabelling packages can get you into major

trouble!).

Wow! I usually use my whole name because there are a lot of Amy Waters around.

Just don't change your last name and we'll be ok. LOL

Wanita- years ago I used to be able to find frozen coconut cream in Asian

markets.

Next time I'm near one I'll look. The gum doesn't seem to affect me but I'm

ordering the glass bottles next time.

Glad you mentioned this. Have been pineing for when I can order this coconut

cream. Get digestive problems from guar gum in Thai Kitchen so this is out.

Sticking to Thai Kitchen Pure and will get coconut oil from WFN when I do

it. Has anyone found a frozen coconut milk, cream resource? Was thrown about

somewhere as available in some Asian markets. Is supposedly the best way to

keep a pure, unprocessed product.

Well, I haven't called WFN yet myself, but they do supposedly have a

genuinely gum-free -- in fact, completely additive-free -- coconut cream

product. It comes in glass bottles, but you have to call them, since it's

not listed on their site. I'm looking forward to trying it.

Really? I guess I heard wrong, then. How disappointing -- unless, of

course, I also heard wrong about the gums, but I don't think so.

Thanks, Elainie! Find me a VT source and I'll be up to stock my freezer. :-)
