Hi allIt seems, with increasing discussion about RDI, that people who are interested might appreciate some sort of information session??It wouldnt be anything too complex and it would probably focus on explaining what the 'guided participation relationship' (GPR) is and how to take the first steps in preparing your family for GPR - possibly run by a couple of Consultants who use GPR.A chance to learn more about it with access also to parents who are using GPR - quite informal and interactive??Would people be interested in that? A charity I am involved with has some funding that could help to cover any cost......we might even be able to put on a buffet :)Let me know if you are interested.(Please note - I am not using the name 'RDI' as it is copyrighted. GPR is not copyrighted and is basically what underpins RDI).Zoe Read amazing stories to your kids on Messenger. Try it Now!

P.S We've just started with a consultant. We looked into RDI when ds

was 14 mos but didn't persue it. How we wish we did!

He is nearly 4 now. Non verbal but we have seen subtle changes since

starting RDI. I can't even put into words some of the changes we've

seen. Not even sure which is RDI or biomed, but since Sept we are

potty trained (did it himself over 4 days) he points with his finger

rather than all extended fingers. He can follow my eye gaze, back in

Feb he couldn't even follow my finger point. We now play

sophisticated games of hide and seek, i'm sure his receptive language

has increased. He smiles at us, plays new/different games every day

(e.g. today he picked up a ball and kicked it, put a tiny dolly hat

on his head, put on big sis's boots and shuffled around) He helps

with the chores, helps with baking - cracking eggs, stirring

clockwise and counter clockwise. He makes tea, juices his fruit and

veg (both with help), spreads and cuts with a knife.

We do stuff like lay in bed at night and give him massages whilst

reminiscing/talking about what we did that day.

I'm not that well versed in explaining RDI but we try to use the

principles of RDI in every day life... reducing verbal interaction,

increasing non verbals (gesture, expression etc)

He seems more confident and happy somehow. Also another big thing for

us is that he's starting to look at us/come to us when called. I

think it's because he knows we're not going to place a huge demand on

him.

The thing i found most difficult was to cut down on the talking.

Those of you who know me know i love a chat!!

Where would this take place, please, Steph?

For me, central London would be first choice (after Cambridge, natch!)

and Birmingham second; but London would be very much preferred.

Hi Margaret

Still working on this. Most likely would be London or Maidenhead -

depends on which Consultants are available, will let you know as

soon as I can.
