Welcome, Dani - I can't answer your questions, you'll have to rely on the more experienced people for that, but couldn't help replying anyway - ya just gotta love somebody that jumps right in with such unabashed...ness. Where did you learn that? I have learned from a few sources that they are suppost to float! What a learned was that if you are getting enough fiber they float, if you are getting too much protein they sink, and if too much sugar they leave skid marks. Sorry about the gross topic, but I'd like to know what is the truth! Dani ************************************************** Hi Dani, welcome!! floaters or sinkers is a topic of great debate and pops up from time to time. So let me tell you my experience/opinion. My stools have always floated as far back as I can remember. I always thought that was normal. I have gallstones (now silent thanks to Weston Price and Warrior Diet) and used to regularly do liver flushes. I found it strange that after each liver flush, my stools would sink for a while then start floating again. Naturopathy/bowel cleansing advocates say your stools should: * float then slowly sink (indicating adequate fibre) * be walnut-coloured * not soil your anus ;-) * be a nice long unbroken sausage * not smell * occur within half an hour after each meal (ie. transit time of 24 hours, that means yesterday's breakfast comes out after today's breakfast) Hah! darn near impossible if you ask me. Most of us have had our digestive tracts damaged by SAD diets and the modern " civilised " lifestyle. Anyway, I'm digressing. I finally worked out (no thanks to all the doctors and naturopaths I went to), that my gallstones were related to a digestive problem and poor ability to digest fats in particular. When I added more fats into my diet a la WPF and took HCl for a while, my stools started sinking. I can only say, when I wasn't healthy my stools floated. When I became healthy, my stools sank. Now they only float when I am a bit constipated. So for me, stools should sink. But that doesn't mean that's the case for everyone. Hope that doesn't confuse the issue too much! LOL! Filippa ;-)
