Three times? I go through 3-4 pounds of red meat in a week, so I'd think

someone who's anemic should have more!

Well, any increase will help. Perhaps combined with the herbal stuff the

increase will help. Just make sure to measure your progress, and if your

symptoms worsen in the immediate, or don't improve over time, definitely

consider

supplementing.

In that case, a serving of Emergen-C would be much better. It has a third or

less of the fructose and 10 times as much vitamin C. Also it tastes good and

tends to act as a pick me up, I figure because of the aspartic acid and maybe

the pottasium.

Also, they now make a " lite " version with no fructose.

<<Depending on how small the amount of liver is, you may well be wasting your

time. If " small " means a quarter pound, you should be getting a significant

amount of iron from it, but if " small " means a bite, there's just not much iron

there. >>

Sighhhhhh.a quarter pound is about one quarter of a lamb's liver I think. I just

don't think I could stomach that much every day. I've started having about 25gm

a day. Before I was just having liver every now and then. I figured if I have a

little bit every day, I'll consume more. So today my goal will be 2 x 25gm =

50gm. So that's a whole liver consumed over ten days. Maybe not enough? (this

is on top of meat about 3 times a week).

<<<Even if raw liver has superior iron absorption to cooked liver (and I don't

know any reason to think this is true, but it might be), there's only so much

you can compensate for this by reducing the total amount before the latters

effect outweighs any superior absorption that might be had.>>>

Well I'm having it raw for the other benefits - ie. energy boost, fatigue

prevention, not for assumed increased iron absorption.

<<<My mom used some herbal thing that was relatively low in iron compared to the

pills the doc wanted her to take (actually much lower), and it worked great,

though I don't remember its name.>>>

Sounds like Floradix. Some of the pregnant women on discussing NT said they

increased their iron counts with Floradix or black strap molasses. That's why I

thought if I do all 3 (floradix, molasses and liver), I've got a good chance!

Then I hit on the idea of consuming the molasses with the liver to make it

easier to get down.

Does seem as though being a vegetarian has affected my iron absorption but I'm

hoping to reverse that.
