Good quality? #2: Anyone have a basis for saying all Atlantic Salmon is farm-raised? A web-site that they can refer me to? #3: What does everyone think about someone (me) creating a list based on everyone's experiences/input regarding frequently used NT/WAPF ingredients with FAQs about each item? I don't remember where I got that info, but Atlantic Salmon is on the endangered species list, so cannot legally be caught. Hence all Atlantic salmon commercially available MUST be farm-raised to the best of my knowledge. Suze Fisher Lapdog Design, Inc. For some reason I thought it was only the Atlantic Salmon that existed in several river runs in Maine................I'm not sure how the ES list works, hmmmm......this is an interesting question. I'll do more research. swimming upstream for now, Nanette

Katja - The spectrum oil I purchased clearly stated on the lable that it was unrefined! BUT, I used it this evening and the smell was terrible (like vomit) but the taste of the food was not different than the other coconut oil I've used (Omega). Anyone else have anything to add about the Spectrum oil? It smells great in the jar, just bad when I cooked with it. Nanette

Yeah, Spectrum just sucks. Period. The started making unrefined in response to people requesting it due to Enig's work in large part, but at least their refined stuff had no flavor! I think a lot of people decided no flavor is better than sewer flavor, and stopped buying it, and I've seen the refined stuff surfacing again. All but Omega stink when heated. All but Omega have a REALLY strong coconut taste. I think Omega is still a good quality oil, but the fact it doesn't taste much or smell when heated is a benefit when cooking with it. For the others, I'll have to get used to the smell, as I have quite a lot to get through! Jo ___________________________________________________________ Messenger - Communicate instantly... I bought some of this and only managed to get through about a cup of it. I've had the jar for a year. I've got a WFN order coming so the Spectrum has been relegated to soap making. There was a funny sort of metallic flavor to it plain, though it seemed to be okay cooking it. Even so it does have a strong coconut flavor which is interesting with scrambled eggs. I was in my health food store this weekend and found a selection of three other coconut oils for sale there, including Garden of Life and (I think) Omega. I chose to try the third one whose brand name escapes me. It's much better plain than the Spectrum! I'll be interested to see how it compares to my order from WFN. > #3: What does everyone think about someone (me) creating a list based on > everyone's experiences/input regarding frequently used NT/WAPF ingredients > with FAQs about each item? Maybe when new people sign up they can be pointed to it in the Welcome Letter as it may answer their first few questions right away! There's not so much anything wrong with it as there are much better COs out there. Spectrum, IIRC, is RBD -- refined, bleached and deodorized. Tropical Traditions, Coconut Oil Supreme, and some of the oils Wilderness Family Naturals carry, are all virgin oils. >#3: What does everyone think about someone (me) creating a list based on >everyone's experiences/input regarding frequently used NT/WAPF ingredients >with FAQs about each item? Hmm, the plot sickens, so to speak. Omega's coconut oil is the one oil of theirs I was grossly disappointed by, and AFAIK it is an RBD oil. Try some Coconut Oil Supreme, or either of the virgin oils WFN sells. -
