Guest guest
I think alot of us have known similar horror. If he's taking a lot of B6/P5P I would suggest stopping it to see if sleep improves. Try Epsom salts baths or cream? Perhaps stop all supplements for a while to see whether this changes things. Melatonin shouldn't be given long term as it ceases to be effective. perhaps after a couple of months off it might work again. Have black out blind and black out curtains. Have no toys in the bedroom. - Just a couple of suggestions. Switch off all electrical appliances in the area - they may be hearing a buzz. Guest guest
YES YES, Adrenal cortex has done it for us!!! BUT he recently had antibiotics followed by increased probiotics but this has disrupted his sleep again. He is so sensitive. Guest guest
Yes, I think it would be a good thing to address the adrenals. Also, melatonin might work better if dropped down to just a tiny bit, like 1 mg. Worth a try anyhow. I would think at 20 mgs that would cause just about anybody to start dumping it and therefore have the opposite impact. Is the boy using 5HTP? Is his gut much better on that diet? Are they using nuts on SCD? If so, maybe lectins are still damaging the gut--not the case for all kids, but if it is the case, then serotonin levels could be screwed. I would also try to have the boy spend almost all day outside if possible and then, as has been mentioned, complete darkness to signal the pineal gland. Also, if quiet doesn't work, some sort of white noise might help. For ds phenol intolerance really played havoc with sleep (not like this poor boy) but might be something to consider. This may be the case with your son and perhaps a bit extra adrenal support for the next little while would be a good idea. Especially considering all the other stuff that the poor chap's been through. Anita
Guest guest
Hi Mandi Not Anita or but had a few thoughts on this. When I felt quite ill earlier this year my melatonin profile ws horribly wrong with peaks in the day when they should hae been at night. My sleep was awful and I ws really tired. This can be esily tested by 4 salia smples if the little boy would comply but I imagine thats difficult for most of our kids. A good wy to reset is to hae a walk before 11 am as the body resets itself. The accompanying drenal profile for me was rubbish as were hormones. With appropriate adrenal supplements I imagine its much better. But haent re-tested. Ecuse my typing some of my computer keys not working. are there any other behaiours at night like sweating, turning, lying in funny positions, how about what he uses on his bed du et or blankets? We battled badly with s sleep but for us the min issue ws the bowel and tht would be my first thought with this little guy? Any hopes of him haing any inestigations for that? lso more obious things like tooth aches. For us lots of night time stuff is yeasty relted but I know you know all tht. We did do a neurotransmitter profile when we had this problem and I dont think it ws particularly helpful. It showed some serotonin low nd glutmates high if I rememeber. Hae they tried anything like tryptophan or Gaba? Another thing hae they recently decorated the room or done anything different in the house? New bed, bedding. s pretty sensitie and we had some probs after doing her room all girly at one point. I also herd of another family who did up there liing room. It had red lower walls and a red carpet and the child wouldnt go in there at all. They couldnt figure out why and gradually tracked it back to when they decorated. Once they repainted the walls problem soled. We spoke to a psychologist at one point about s sleep he suggested a weighted blanket, or a electric underblanket, huge toy if sleeping without the parents is an issue. Our problem ws also not the going to sleep but the staying asleep. So when we used melatonin I gae it before I went to bed t 11-12 then we managed to keep asleep better. Poor people the horror of no sleeps indescribable. Bowel really worth checking een a massie clear out, lots probios, course of Colloidal siler and cande and a few weeks on SCD intro would be what I would try to tckle some of it. Good Luck. Guest guest
when i was pregnant with my boy, our living room was red. It made me ill, and to this day, just thinking about it still makes me feel queasy. Colour defo has effects. we painted our living room yellow after that and our boy was always more hyper - now its a light slate oolour and all seems to be much better. > > Hi Mandi > > Not Anita or but had a few thoughts on this. Guest guest
Nightmare!! talking of which, we were told not to go over 9mg of melatonin as it can cause nightmares. so it might be that he's scared to fall asleep if the high dose has had a negative effect. told us this and it was reiterated with NHS (a rare meeting of minds that one) What about 5HTP just for its good mood/relaxing thing. Failing that clonidine (rx) would knock him out but wouldn't stop him waking again a few hours later. Arenal support has helped Tom a lot I think, reduced number of meltdowns certainly. Poor parents. Guest guest
Hi Anita, Thanks, I'm desperate to sort it out, sometimes I think there is no point going to bed as when he is lying awake he is moving the whole night - restless legs, sitting up, trying to climb over me, kicking me, though unintentional - I get really mad with him The only upside to his lack of sleep which is very unusual is he will have no seizures (maybe just some twitches), but when he sleeps he will certainly have a grand mal seizure or two that day. Think I'll try the AC again, we only went up to 500mg so looks like a higher dose is worth a try considering ds weight :-) I've got the C, B's, E and high mag already in, but no chromium. I'll let you know how we get on. If that is white noise, then the constant humming of the air conditioning in the room on holiday may have been helping!! Please let me know if you come across white noise machines. Thanks very much, emily x > > , > > I'm very sorry to hear that things are still this way. Guest guest
Hi , This is the one I'm thinking of getting when I have the money (although the price is pretty good). http://www.whitenoisemachine.co.uk/ The white noise may very well have helped while you were on vacation. It may also have been the sun. I sound like a gadget- crazy woman (which I'm not) but I wonder if a sun lamp of some sort would help your son? We need UVB rays to produce Vitamin D and natural light is a huge part of the circadian cycle and health in general. Not sure if any lamp would be considered the same as natural light, but here in the UK there aren't too many options for natural sun. It might be worth checking into. My sister bought one for her son in Canada (where I come from it isn't possible to make D from the sun for 6 months of the year. I think the same is true for here probably). She thought it was helping but I'm not sure they're very committed to using it often enough. Anyway, I don't want to sound like I'm endorsing this, cause I don't have enough info, but it would be worth looking into if your son was actually sleeping on holidays. I know that feeling of being hit, kicked, rolled over, poked in the eye, etc. No matter how much you know it's not their fault, it is impossible not to feel frustrated :-( I hope you get to the bottom of this soon, . Guest guest
Hi My son was absolutely gorgeous on holiday in Spain in the summer, apart from 1 minor incident when he emptied the entire contents of my bag into the marina. I'm going to get one ot these special vit D lights from Boots in the New year, hopefully in the Sales. 's sleep is v hit and miss at home. I would say the Adrenal cortex is defin helping though. Having read Anita's posts I think I will increase as he is only on 250 mg at the mo.
