Xanthelasma

Today was my yearly eye exam. The last time I went the doc scratched

my cornea with a pachymeter probe. Then I discovered that I had a

pre-existing condition (convenient for the doc, what?) called anterior

basement membrane dystrophy that wouldn't have been discovered unless

the cornea got scratched. Hmmmm. No lawsuit to be had there.

At the beginning of Novemeber a funny little something showed up on

the inner part of my upper eye lid. It looked kind of like the thin

skin blew out and was filled with something. I guessed it was fat. It

has grown larger since then, though my eyesite is not compromised by

it, only my vanity.

So, today I asked about it and the first words out of his mouth were,

" It's called Xanthelasma. It's seen in patients with high cholesterol

levels. " grrrrrrrrrrr. I don't take this kind of information very

well. Just when I thought I had put all the cholesterol myths to rest

in my mind, this has to pop up. <shrieking>Yes! I admit it. I have

high cholesterol.</shriek> <now in a wimper> But I eat so well, so

real, so local. <sighing> Ahem.

A little googling for Xanthelasma took me to a site called

curezone.com where a woman vowed that a lemonade cleanse had done

wonders with her own Xanthelasma, shrinking them though not totally

eliminating them.

Lemonade cleanse? Lemonade diet? Lemons squeezed and added to maple

syrup used as a fast. Just doesn't sound right, especially because

they recommend a coffee enema as a followup. Yes, I like my coffee,

but in the right orifice, thank you very much.

Since I am not particularly keen on surgery (oh my god! it would be

plastic surgery, wouldn't it?) thinking it might be worth a try. But

not the coffee up my arse, nope, no, not going to happen.

Trolling for advise from this great crew.

TIA,

Sharon
