Risca,

This is just my 2 cents worth........

I had trigeminal neuralgia 4 years ago and the pain was phenomenal. It

occured right after dental treatment. It was later discovered that one

of the treated teeth upset my overall bite such that everytime I bit

down, the tooth jiggled slightly. The dentist shaved a millimeter off

and the entire pain went.

Can you maybe trace these problems to a dental treatment (eg an amalgam

placement) you had?

The fact that serotonin helped is a puzzle. Migraines are indicative

usually of HIGH serotonin. So supplementing would technically make them

worse.

Hi,

No it definitely is occuring under much the same conditions as my

migraines, ie. when I am stressed and tired! But my migraines ended

up becoming very regualar.

I have had dental investigations, including x rays to check as the

pain has been so bad previously, but nothing there.

Interesting about migraines usually being because of high serotonin,

if I don't take 5htp for 2 days I start to feel a migraine starting

so I know it is the 5htp that is keeping them at bay! When I posted

my earlier posting the neuralgia pain was beginning to get really bad

so I had to take another one, and hey presto within about an hour the

pain is starting to ease, 5htp is making it much better! So it is

looking like my migraines and now neuralgia are being caused by low

serotonin isn't it? But can 5htp effect whatever system it needs to

in the space of an hour?

Thanks

Okay, another angle...

Migraines can also be triggered by surplus amine containing foods, ie

bananas, hard cheese and I forget the rest.

Can you connect the migraines to any foods?

Try epsom salt baths and see if they help. Some people find relief that

way but eventually you'll have to find the cause.

I think Vick's got a lot of experience with migraines. Hopefully she

will see this and give you some ideas....

I remember we tried to brainstorm on this a while ago. Maybe you can put

'migraines' into the search engine on the Autism-Biomedical-Europe

website and find the postings.

Hope you find some relief soon. I was always really worried about

overdosing on pain killers...

hi risca

so sorry to hear about your migraines! a friend of mine was having them at set

time in her

menstrual cycle and read an article about a link between women having migraines

and holes

in their hearts. she thought the link was ridiculous, but for some reason,

followed through

and got it checked, it appeared that she did have a hole in her heart (very

tiny) and once it

was fixed (quick and easy) she hasn't had one since. i've done a quick google

and found lots

of info about it, the nhs are doing procedures and have done research on this

over the years.

Hi Risca, I just came across this by accident looking up stuff for

Ella. My bro-in-law had constant migranes, was related to a trapped

nerve or something like that in his back-saw a chiropracter and no

more migraines! Don't know if its worth a go-you do a lot of driving

maybe youve put something out?Just a thought Lawz xx

Hi Risca,

I can thoroughly empathise with you as my sister has suffered since

she was 18 and she will be 60 this year.

Incase that you are not aware, there is some research on the migrain

society website regarding the connection between migraine sufferers

and hole in the heart, my sister had tests done it was found that she

does have a hole in her heart. There is an operation available but of

course there are risk factors & personal circumstances that have to

be considered by each individual.

My sis cant have the op as her risk factors are too great, she has

been on Imigran injections for many years, and has tried various

other courses of medication. I will mention to her about 5htp.

I hope this is of some help,

kind regards

Loula

Just wanted to say thank you to everyone for your replies. The hole

in the heart issue is something that I will look into as the only

test I've had done was an MRI.

, thanks for your message, I do see an excellent McTimoney

Chiropracta as I slipped a disc twice when I was seventeen and could

barely walk!

As it turned out this lastest attack was not in fact a neuralgia

attack......a week after first experiencing the pain, a lump appeared

on the roof of my mouth. Visited the dentist, huge abcess, had an

hour and a half in the dentist chair whilst they tried to find

someway to drain it.......didn't manage to totally drain it and it

took 3 courses of antibiotics to sort it out before they could do a

root canal. And the only reason it was so bad was because I had let

it go on so long because I thought it was a neuralgia attack, should

have realised when the 5htp wasn't working!

Thanks to everyone though, some really good information for me to

look at regarding my migraines.
