Guest guest
>Well, some docs won't recommend the GF diet because it >is " so hard " to do without wheat ... doing without ALL starches >is far more complex. Esp. if you happen to be allergic to milk >too. I pretty much stay away from the high starches. Flour, potato and such. Lots of meat, veggies and try to go easy on the fruit. Pretty much nothing from a package. Its up in the air about milk. I had food allergy testing and did the rotation diet for 3 months. I tested high on cows milk (yogurt, cheese, casien, beef). Goat milk was acceptable though. I tested allergic to a few other things also. It was one of those test where they test IGE and IGG from your blood. Not sure how accurate they are. I added milk back in. Raw Jersey milk this time. Not sure if there is a negative effect yet. I think I will stop the milk again in a bit and see if I notice anything. http://usbiotek.com/services/allergy.htm >And, if a person is basically >ALLERGIC to a bacteria, then small numbers of them will >cause a reaction ... so it would be better to practice biological >warfare on them than to try to starve them out. It is practically >impossible to " starve " bacteria out ... and they adapt, so on >a low-starch diet they may adapt to eating something else. That is a thought shared by many. >Now, if you happened to know something like, a certain bacteria >in kefir likes to attack Kleb, THAT would be an effective >solution. Or even, a bacteriophage that is Kleb-specific! That would be great. >-- Heidi Jean Thanks Again Heidi. It's always nice to get a different perspective. Guest guest
>Have you tried the Pepto Bismol? Does that help? I tried it when I intitially started the diet. I believe it did help. >1. Increase " anti inflammatory " foods. These include berries and greens. >Also dried whole anchovies. There's been a fair bit of research on this ... >some fruits are as good as NSAIDS for inflammation. Where do you get the anchovies and how do you eat them? What about sardines? >2. Decrease body fat. Body fat PRODUCES inflammatory chemicals too. >I'm doing this by tracking calories (old fashioned, yeah), using coconut >oil instead of other fats, and decreasing starches (my diet isn't " low carb " >by any means, but decreasing starches is a decent way to lose fat). I've been using olive oil mostly. I have the weight covered. I lost about 25 pounds after the diet. >3. Let the gut get EMPTY once in awhile. The WD really works to >balance the gut flora, I think ... the " fast " times let it rest and heal >(raw fruit and vegies are easy on the gut, I think, and don't promote >overgrowth ... avoid juices, cooked food, or dried fruit). Also when >the gut is empty the bacteria probably die back -- they need a constant >food source to multiply. I should try the WD for awhile. Here is something that some people use on the on the low starch diet for AS. We would cleanse the alimentary canal as related to the effect of the gastric flow through the stomach and throughout the duodenum. This may be done through the cleansing by the method of the APPLE DIET - RAW Apples; requiring about three days. Eat nothing but raw apples, you see, for three days - each meal for three days. Then at bedtime on the evening of the third day, take half a cup (teacup) of Pure Olive Oil. Doesn't have to be all at once. >4. Drink kefir-beer. It makes a big difference when I don't >drink it! I make some from grape juice and kefir grains. Is this the same? I don't do much of it. Maybe I should drink more of it. >If you find out what works for you I'd love to hear it ... Okay seems like a work in progress all the time. >-- Heidi Jean

I'm eating dried anchovies from a Korean store ... most Asian stores sell them. I just eat them like potato chips, though they are supposed to be good fried with spices (and nuts). They are full of all kinds of good stuff ... whole dried fish are what you add to animal diets to give them vitamins, protein, and minerals, and they are easy to carry around (tho I don't eat them in public ....) Sardines should be good too. I read an article once about anti-inflammatory foods, I think garlic was on there too. Any Omega-3 fish should be good, I'd guess. Here is one list ... olive oil is right up there too, as an anti-inflammatory. http://www.thenutritionreporter.com/remedies_for_inflammation.html BTW this article says to avoid veg. oils and Omega 6 oils in general ... which I have been, though not for that reason (we get grassfed beef and I stopped using vegie oils a long time ago). >>2. I eat raw stuff during the day, regular food at night. My digestive tract likes that. >>4. Drink kefir-beer. Yep, same thing. -- Heidi Jean
