Hi Steph

Yes I would do this and ask them to x-ray his bowel obviously! They can

do some C-reactive protein stuff maybe looking for infection, he could

have a burst appendix or anything, sorry to be the voice of doom but

its what frightens me most with Autism the not being able to tell. We

once had a period when literally screamed for 3 hours. I was

heavily pregannt with Cameron and when we saw the doctor she prescribed

us diazepam, baby diazepam! She was 5 years old. All that time it was

her bowel. Good luck lovely let us know how it goes.

Thinking of ya.

Sorry I don't have any good ideas Steph, but I would take him in just

to have the obvious things looked at--as Caroline stays, appendix,

ears, bowels. Even if it means just giving him some strong drugs to

knock him out for a bit until you can regroup and he can get some rest,

may be a good option in this situation.

I'm very sorry this is happening.

Hi Steph and Praveen,

We are thinking of you and hoping things improve.

We've noticed Eddie has been blocking up more and think this is

because of less exercise in the colder weather. We bought a reviber

machine(just a vibrating plate - makes your ears tickle and teeth hum)

recently and a chi machine too! Can't say they are helping much - the

reviber is a bit smelly even after 3 weeks of off-gasing.

Oxypowder and similar have helped. But really need to get more

movement and exercise.

Best wishes,

Sandy

Well done you for going to Casualty. That Dr sounds like a saint.

Hopefully with the room decorating over , Tom can bounce back to his

usual self. Poor poor lad, what our kids have to go through. Take

care and enjoy the rest of the break now if you can.

I really appreciate everyone's thoughts, thanks so much. So ruddy grim.

Went back to hospital this morning as no better. arrived at 11am and

left at 7pm. Hmm, not that great really as it took them until 4.30pm

to get someone to administer an enema. Which took about 90 seconds.

Lovely people - not one iota of communication between a and e, x ray,

the ward ....

that said, they did an xray without being asked and yes, totally

impacted, majorly dilated in the bowel - so very painful but nothing

life threatening. But he's still impacted - enema didn't even touch

the side so an evening of dynorod, the new fun family game.

on the plus side - the lowest alcohol intake I have ever had over the

festive season.

;-)

thanks again everyone, they gave Tom a bay all to himself (he's

legendary) and I think he might have rather enjoyed watching

Poppins in complete calm and tranquility!

If you need more enemas, this on-line chemist sells the adult Fleet

enemas for 89p :http://www.chemistdirect.co.uk/fleet-ready-to-use-

enema_1_9356.html. That said, the Chelsea and Westminster probably

gave Henry an adult dose when he went in for investigation aged 8, as

the bottle they used which was also a Fleet enema was twice the size

of the paediatric bottles I had previously seen.(Henry had two doses

in the hospital.) Your local Boots may also stock them for sale over

the counter, or they are available on prescription when the GPs

eventually go back to work. The nozzle is soft and so shouldn't be

injurious the paediatric dose is half the adult one.

I also think prune juice is good - large supermarkets. Apparently

there is something in the prunes that helps peristalsis as well as

leading to softening of the stool. However, it appears to have no

effect on Henry.

I do hope things are a bit better this evening.

Steph, I don't know if you want to take the plunge but brown sugar is

supposed to help with bad constipation. A doctor friend of ours from

Egypt says it is a traditional remedy in the middle east.

what do you do, just give with water? scared of feeding the yeast

that will try and move in once he's clear. If he actually clears,

nothing at all so far - I thought dynorod was a joke, now I@m not so

sure. He's white as a sheet - no doubt all sort of nasties are running

riot in that pressure cooker. I cant put any more movicol or

oxypowder in I don't think, might make him feel worse.

Completely ridiculous - but I htink might mean his peristalsis is

actually worse than it used to be. even the first (up to 2 year old)

impaction he had didn't take this long.

Hi Steph

How much Movicol and oxypowder are you using?

Does he tolerate for example dulcolax suppositories or enemas?

When you did the clear out before he was scoped by Dr Balzola what did

you do for a clear out then?

I suggest that with things this bad it might be necessary to bottom

treat as well as top treat.

it took a week to clear him out for that scope :-( Strong men with

horses, chimney sweeps - it was awful. In the end it was massive doses

of movicol, senna and two enemas. He was clear 20 minutes before the

anaethetic. He's not too bad with enemas, it's Mark who can't face

them. but needs must. I'll buy in a stock - not worth going through

this again. He is an overgrowth waiting to explode - and his yeast was

totally under control for teh first time in ages. Bah!! Humbug indeed.

What's dulculax - havent' tried that one, will google it.

Hi Steph

I have some enemas from the USA I can send you them if you want them.

How many sachets of Movicol did you use when at the max? The problem

is the high salts in Movicol. Miralax from the USA has only the Poly

Ethylene Glycol but none of the salts that Movicol contains. It might

be worth getting some on prescription if you have a medic there.

I can tell you off list what we did with Becks. Dulcolax is just a

regular laxative you can buy anywhere. We used Enemas, miralax and

dulcolax before s scoping in New York. Her bowel prep was

really good when she was scoped. Mind you we did flood the toilet in

the Hotel/Apartment room, whoops, so we musta been shifting stuff!!

Oh the joys....

We just had a massive metre long pooh today down the loo! It was one

of those days I had to grab my mobile and take a picture then you

suddenly think what has life come to that I am dangling down the loo

taking pooh pictures! Ah well, needs must a picture speaks a

thouisand words or whatever the saying is.

Lotsa Luv Caz

You could put the pic on next year's christmas cards! LOL

We've been using miralax mostly recently but have just run out and had

to switch to Movicol. He's had 8 sachets today, 4 BMs but nothing very

impressive. Just called back into casualty because they thought his

xray suggested possible appendicitis. so - that's something else to

keep an eye out for tonight. Decided that as his tummy was soft and he

let them poke about there he was probably ok. They aksed lots of q's

about his bowel though.

Don't worry about sendng the enema - I'll track some down here by hook

or crook and if I can't I'll call you. THanks hon :-)

what a week - four trips to a and e. H'es still white as a sheet but

has his appetite back.
